So what were the big surprises in At World's End for you? Surely we were expecting several things to happen, but what were you NOT expecting?
I was totally shocked about Tia Dalma. Obviously I knew there was more to her then she or Jack ever let on, but I really didn't expect that she was a goddess trapped in human form. Or that she was Davy Jones' love. I knew about the locket connection, and figured she must know who it was and was keeping the secret, but I never guessed it was actually her. Hmm, "a woman as changing and harsh and untameable as the sea." That makes perfect sense now, huh?
I was really thrown by Will being killed as well. I had heard that in an earlier script Will was to stab the heart of Davy Jones and become captain of the Flying Dutchman. But I thought that was just in at earlier script! Naturally I was sure that he would be the one to kill Jones (He was a touch of destiny about him after all.), but I didn't expect him to have to take his place. And just about the only way to make that ok with Lizzie is for Will to have died otherwise. One day every 10 years is better than never, eh?
Ok, your turn! ;D

I kinda suspected the whole Tia Dalma/ Davy Jones thing in the second movie... Cause of the lockets.
I was not however expecting Jack to be that insane. I knew he'd be a bit bonkers... but I didn't think he'd be totally of his rocker with all of his marbles gone.
I was not expecting there to be a link to the Odyssey (Calypso.) That was amazing.
I dunno. The whole thing was crazy. I want to try to see it again tomorrow. Maybe.

I knew about the T/D thing. I mean, Tia Dalma was pretty darn possessive of that story when she was telling it to Will and crew. So I suspected that.
Didn't expect Will to become the captain of the Dutchman. I was pretty sure it was going to be either Jack or Barbossa.
Really didn't expect Norry and Gov. Swann to bite it.
Loved how they worked Keith in. I thought they'd include that in one of the locker scenes. Way funnier to make him the keeper of the code. Although it all makes sense now when Jack kept telling people to keep to the code in the first movie.
Didn't expect Liz to become the pirate king. I thought it'd be difficult for her and Will to go back to civilian life, but didn't expect her to so fully embrace her outlaw status.
As for pretty much separating W/E for the rest of her natural life - was it me, or did Bootstap hint at her being able to come aboard the Dutchman after she died? - was a big shocker. And probably one of the things I'm most uncomfortable with.
The other thing I'm the most uncomfortable with is that JACK LOST HIS SHIP AGAIN! What the smeep is that about?!

Heh, yeah, didn't expect the movie to end with Jack losing the Pearl, yet again. Me too on Norry and Gov. Swann. Not at all pleasant, those. I didn't pick up on Bootstrap hinting anything there! Something to look for next time, eh?

I don't understand how Jack could lose his ship again,, either!

Definitely surprised by Will's death and subsequent resurrection as Captain of the Flying Dutchman but the Tia Dalma issue did not surprise me at all. The only thing about it that did surprise me was that I didn't mind it ;D I was convinced I would hate the fact that she was Davy Jones's lost love but I think it was all beautifully done. The multiple Jack scenes were the biggest surprise I think...another step into the world of the weird. And Governor Swann! I didn't expect him to die at all. Norry wasn't so much of a surprise but it was still very upsetting

Yea, I forgot to mention the governor! I was shocked! Why'd he have to go?? But none the less, Kiera performed that bit when she saw her dead father very well.

I'm still really upset about Will! Though once every ten years is definitely better than never, I almost cried at the end when he left... poor Liz! Poor Will! Poor offspring of Will and Liz! But at least he didn't die. Elizabeth and her multiple lip-locks also surprised me a bit. Hope she can last those ten years!

Hmmm....I was surprised about Liz being the Pirate King because even all tanned and decked out in bad smeep clothes, she's just too...un-piratey for me.
Jack's madness seemed to hit a new low/high and I just couldn't wrap my brain around it. I loved it to bits, I just...maybe the Locker broke him, I don't know, but he definitely seemed slightly more senile this time around.
Bootstap's madness. Didn't really expect that either. Sure, a long time in any brig would make you a little daffy, but that was a little much. I'm going to have to watch it again to see what's going on in Bootstrap's characterization.
I was a but surprised about Beckett's complete freeze up at the end. I know arrogance will make you cocky, but I can't imagine that Beckett would lose his cool that fast. He can stare down a gun point blank, but as soon as a couple of ships come riding up, he's gonna short out? I kind of didn't like that.
That creepy dude who was Beckett's henchman was all kinds of cool. I'm surprised he turned into such an evil and delightful force. I quite liked him, whoever he was.
I'm surprised Norry had to go an pretend to get stabbed in the chest. I mean, that was a little tasteless, considering that Weatherby had to go pretend to go to the netherworld when he was really going to England. Norry has to just take that gag stick off right now and wash his admiral's uniform and everything will be shiny. Admiral Norrington...*swoon* (It is not denial. *shifty look*)
Ragetti can sweet talk a woman better than Barbossa. Excellent surprise. I'm just wondering where he learned it from.
Barbossa stealing the Black Pearl. AMAZING surprise because it has not only brought the series full circle, it just reminds me of how utterly fantastic Barbossa is.
Edit: The Kraken! I was very surprised they killed the beastie off. I would have thought Beckett would want to harness it for himself.

Perhaps as the Dutchman proved overly efficient at disposing of the enemy, Beckett thought it unnecessary and dangerous to have another weapon at Davy Jones's disposal. Also, I expect killing the kraken would have been a big test to see whether Beckett was ultimately in control or not. I thought the ship had claimed him. You lose yourself and become part of the Dutchman when you've been there a while and I guess stuck in the brig with nothing to do that transition happened more quickly for poor Bootstrap. I love your explanation of Weatherby (classic name!) and Norry's "disappearances". ;D

Hah! Speaking of names, one of the things I was most surprised about...
"Hector!" #rotfl#

I was very surprised about that Jack lost his ship again
And what actually shocked me is that Tia Dalma was Calypso.

Good point, Jay, I still feel a little bad for the Kraken though. I don't blame it for eating Jack.
As far as Bootstrap goes, even that coral guy from the second movie seemed relatively coherent and sane compared to him. Just the whole not knowing where he was and forgetting things, it was awkward.
I don't know why, but I knew his name was Hector. It might've been on IMDB after the first movie, but the whole theater giggled when he called him 'Hector.'

^^
Well if you watched any of the behind-the-scenes extras for the first movie, Johnny explained that all thu the filming of P1, he and Geoffrey joked around calling Barbossa, Hector. So I assume it was one of those lines Johnny just added in on his own.

Lol, know one ever knows his name. That surprises me, I must say. Say it with me everyone. Mercer. His name is Mercer. And I as gross as it was, I was glad to see him get his just desserts. Blech.
