Alright, if Sam isn't supposed to know how to read, which Mike informs us of, then why at the beginning of the movie is he reading a Buster Keaton book? I'm sure he could just be looking at the pictures but think about it, then how would he know how to do all of his Silent film comedic tricks? Anyone?

Well he does mention he had to drop out of school to learn the tricks and that would explain the "can't read" thing. So it may just be him observing pictures that were in the book. And don't forgot Buster's movies!

If you'll notice, the book is called The Look of Buster Keaton. Lots of pictures, I'll imagine. He can likely read some words, you know. He knows his name. He just doesn't know a lot of words. About the writing... He can write about as well as he can read. He knows a few important words, like his name, but doesn't write that well. Another note... In the director commentary, he mentions more than once, that Sam has classic dyslexia, which also explains why he didn't do well in school.

Also, Mike isn't exactly Sam's biggest fan, he was exagerating(sp?) a little when he said he 'cant read', but Sam doesn't read or write very well because he has severe dyslexia. Not all dyslexics are as hmmm reading-impared shall we say as Sam. I'm slightly dyslexic and I've written a 28179 word fanfic (that isn't finished yet) and I read constantly, however my hand writting does leave a lot to be desired *it's almost as bad as Sam's (not really but it's pretty bad)*

I never new he had dyslexia. I just thought he couldn't read or write. Well...I learn new things everyday.') We had this guy come once with that disease and he drew a beautiful scenery of mountains and that with chalk. and I mean it was beautiful. He's better than picasso. Anyways I'm getting off topic.
