I think he's a little unwell, but definitely not crazy. Don Juan makes my heart all a-flutter.

Oh I'm so glad this is up now! I love Don Juan. I think he has a lot to teach us, not just about love, but about how to live our lives. Such a great movie, and such a great character for Johnny!

I loved this movie! I'm not a big fan of Marlon Brando, but I thought he did such a good job. He and Johnny really worked well together. I loved the character of Don Juan and how uncompromising he was in his identity. And yet, at the end he had the wisdom to know when to compromise and what was really important. What a great story!

Yes exactly. I love it that he knows when to strike that balance between standing up for your beliefs and compromising in order to gain something.

I don't believe our Don Juan is crazy. He knew who and where he really was the entire time. He simply choose not to believe in these things. Here is a man with an incredibly overactive imagination with the ability to make women spontaneously smeep, but he's not insane. At least, that's my opinion.

No definitely not insane. He simply sees what he chooses to, rather than what he is supposed to.
That's what makes him a great lover.

I loved this movie because it explored a sense of being that nto many people really thing of - can you really be who you say you are when no one else will accept it? How can you honestly know who you are, /what/ you are, without coming to conflicts. Here is Don Juan de Marco, living his life as he always has, and then people bring him to a hospital and tell him he's crazy. What a mind job.
There was a certain aspect of this movie that made me very sad. No one would believe Don Juan is who he says he is, but if you're not who you say you are, then how can you even know yourself at all? Arg, I'm starting to confused myself. But I just thought in all of the scenes with the present-day Don Juan, he looked very sad, angst-ridden. Of course, who wouldn't be after all that's happened to him? But it's the kind of sad that makes me want to hold him and tell him everything's ok. That's the wee mommy inside me that has yet to be born, but likes to come out on occasion. I feel really sad when I think of Don Juan and what's happened to him.
Especially the part when "Don Octavio" gives Don Juan the meds, tells him he has to take them, and DJ just gives in so passively, realisation striking him then that no one else is going to believe he is who he knows he is. So he gives in, gives up, tells them what they want to hear. A part of me is thinking this guy's a really good actor and he's bs'ing the people to believe he's perfectly sane, but another part of me is sad that he might be convinced for the time being that he truly is not Don Juan. Am I making any sense at all? Anyways, that's enough typing for one post. Don't want to flood the board.

I totally hear you, gypsy. I couldn't really tell what happened there at his little hearing. Was he Don Juan pretending to be who everyone else said he was? Or was he Johnny DeMarco medicated out of his delusions? Now actually I think it's neither. I think that he explains it when he and 'Don Octavio' and going over ink blots. DJ tells him that he knows that he is in a mental hospital, but that is a very unimaginative and limited point-of-view. My opinion: He is, of course, Johnny DeMarco from Phoenix, Arizona. And the story he tells at the hearing is true. I don't know a lot about that type of medication, but my guess is that the meds must have been rather disorienting, as he looks still pretty confused on the plane, looking at his 'costume.' But he agreed to take the meds, because I believe he could tell that something was going on with Dr. Mickler and saw that as his only way out of there. But did he know that Dr. M would take him in and then back to the island? *shrug*

I have yet to see this film *gasp* I know, but I will definitely be getting it soon. I'm making a whole list of Johnny movies for christmas. Anywhoo, it seems like everyone knows this movie. Unfortunately this guy my mom works with thinks he's a modern Don Juan whatever dude. I told my mom there's only one Don Juan and that joker ain't him. Johnny is the only one who would ever have claim to that title.
Oh, and I've heard that k-mart has that movie and other Johnny movies for like $6-7 dollars. Worth checking out.
