OKay, so i was wathcing this movie yesterday and I was actually watching closely....and am I incorrect or does Mary actually live? I think that's the case and Jack the Ripper killed the some other woman....but if that was the case...then why did Johnny kill himself? Or did he kill himslef...was it accidental? I don't know! It seems to be a pattern with me that I get confused during Johnny movies...

Okay well, no, Mary isnt killed at the end. But near the end of the movie, Fred Abberline is so paranoid that people are following him, that he doesnt want to go to Mary, afraid that those that are "following him" would kill her. So he stays away and well, thats why he dies alone at the end.

The coins were for the ferryman who takes you from this life to wherever it is your going(lol) and if there are no coins..you're stuck "in Limbo" atleast that's the way I was understanding it when he was explaining it.

I watched the alternate ending... but I have to be honest and say I like the original ending. It's like Romeo and Juliet... when Romeo drinks the poison upon seeing his love is dead. In this case, Abberline is like Romeo... it's kind of tragic... I remember crying the first time I ever saw the film and it got to that part... then it makes me cry because I look past the fact he's actually killing himself... he's doing it to save the life of someone he cares for. And to risk your life for a loved one is just ... I don't know. It adds a lot to the character, I suppose.
(sorry I rambled).

Mary Kelly didn't die in the film, but there is speculation that she was murdered during the actual case. You can read up on it more on www.casebook.org. That should answer your inquiry.
