Hi.. I haven't seen this movie yet, but a few months ago, I was in a play, and for this one part I needed a newspaper. So right before the show I was searching through some old ones, and then right there is a huge ad for The Ninth Gate! I screamed and fell out of my chair and scared a lot of people

Sounds like something I would do too only I bet a lot of people wouldn't even glance at me simply because I'm always doing crazy stuff like that. People once gave me strange looks because I fell outta my chair at lunch laughing so hard. ;D Good times, man!

I second that....I have no clue what happened. Well everyones interpretation is different but i think at the end he was going through the 9th gate or gates of hell. And that girl was a temptress sent from hell almost to collect Dean as her kinda mate. And the only reason Dean did not die when he had the book was because he had her protection. Savvy?!

These books had been around since the what 15th century and no one had unravelled the mystery of how they worked. Dean was the only one to do it, so he got to go through the Ninth Gate without being killed.

This bugs me every time I watch this movie, but I never remember to tell anyone... Am I the only one that is somewhat bothered by the fact that when Dean and the lady are driving through France... they drive on the (directional) right side of the road. If they're driving in France... shouldn't they be on the left? And the driver's side should also be the left? Or maybe I missed something...

You're absolutely correct... it has always bothered me as well... and before I read this thread I thought I was probably the only one who noticed.... oh well.... there are mistakes in every film ever made.... or just about

Now that I've gotten back into my dark adult re-tellings of fairy tales (adults being the intended audience back in the 1700's, and dark being the preferred mood), I have a new appreciation for this movie. It's very much a fairy tale even in the terms of the themes. Good and evil. Greed. Lust. Magic. And even better, it's what fairy tales were supposed to be, once upon a time.

What was your favourite part Iggy? I loved that it was filmed so near to me.... and the history of Johnny's life behind it, being the film he was shooting when he fell in love with Vanessa.
