I totally agree, CC. I think Tim's version is gonna be a very different take on the novel than the first film. I love the original and I was slightly disappointed when I found out that they were creating a re-make (especially when it was first rumored that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were gonna be respectively starring in/producing it ). However, Tim is such an incredibly visual and dark director, so I think if they're going to go ahead with this film, Tim is the perfect man for the job. And I can't wait to see Johnny's performance; he's going to be brilliant!

I absolutely positively can not wait for this movie to come out!!! I always watched the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when I was a kid with a mixture of both wonderment and terror. Nothing can meet the original, in my opinion, nothing compares, but I think that together Tim Burton and Johnny are going to create a new category. A new movie. Something that can not and will not be compared to the orginal, because it will be something extraordinary. Yes, I am really building this movie up in my mind, but I have great hopes for the work that such a visual director like TB and such a versatile actor like Johnny can create again.

Thank you very much. I tend to go a little overboard when it comes to this movie. I have great hope for what it will be. I sincerely hope it will live up to expectations. I think it will.

I just picked up the book today and read it this evening. I've never read it before. The only other Roald Dahl book I've read is "Matilda" and it was great. So, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" did not disappoint!! I must say, I like the book better than the movie with Gene--although Gene did a great job with Wonka. A great interpretation from the book indeed! I think Timmy B could do a really great job with this. I hope he does the Oompa Loompas with CG because they're NOTHING like they were portrayed in the first movie. Whee! This should be fun!

Can I just say that Oompa-Loompas scare me? Seriously, they're little orange and green people who sing and dance and do who knows what to those kids that are stupid enough not to follow the rules. *shudders* I could do with less singing little henchmen and more singing, chocolately goodness Johnny. Really, I could.

The Oompa Loompas are great in the book. They're these skinny little tree-dwellers that Willy Wonka kind of rescued from a dangerous jungle by giving them jobs. I, too, hated the movie Oompa Loompas. But I LOVE the book Oompa Loompas!

Ok, peaceful tree-dwellers I can deal with. It's just those freakly little, half-ominous, bad white-haired, LURKERS . . . I'm running out of descriptives . . . they just freaked me out. The last time I watched it (sometime last year), I actually dreamed about them that night! I hope TB comes up with something different, because those other ones were just WRONG! Not that I'm obsessed with them. I save that for JS, SJ, and occasionally Abberline. (In other words, when I'm not obsessing on JS or SJ.)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory due sometime in June 2005 and....
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Gets Writer [Tue December 16, 2003 10:54AM] Writer John August (Charlie's Angels) is to reteam with director Tim Burton on Warner Bros. Pictures Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They worked together on the latest release Big Fish, which stars Ewan McGregor.
Johnny Depp is attached to star in the redo of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, August, who is said to have enjoyed an extremely positive working relationship with Burton on Big Fish, isn't the first writer hired to help Warners mount the update.
Scott Frank, Gwyn Lurie and Pamela Pettler have previously handled writing chores but August is starting from scratch, sources said, by heading back to the original source material, the Roald Dahl classic novel.
Producers are keen on getting the project before cameras early next year.

I found this ( www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/12/29/1072546457475.html ) over at another board. Be prepared, ladies, for the main snippet: Burton's vision also precluded extensive use of computer-generated imagery in favour of real sets and a "lot of rubber costumes". "For one scene, in which Ewan romances the girl of his dreams with thousands of flowers, the producers were like, 'Well, we'll just do all that with CGI'. And I was all, 'No, no, they have to be real flowers. You can feel the difference'." Bloodied but unbowed by the reaction to his Planet of the Apes remake, Burton has all but officially signed on to direct Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a non-musical remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp taking the role played by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film.Burton says his version would hew closer to Roald Dahl's beloved novel but that as with James and the Giant Peach, a Dahl adaptation Burton produced, "there will be room for interpretation". "Willy Wonka is one of those pictures that's like a great childhood memory, but then when you see it, it's not all that terrific. I think just having Johnny in the film gives it a different spin, but I've got a few ideas up my sleeve, too. "The only thing I'm worried about now is that I might be a little too mature, you know? God, I hope not. I don't want to have make Gandhi 2 or anything." *sigh* No Johnny singing. Poo.
