Yeah, yeah, a newbie comes along reviving old threads!
Blow is one of my favourites so I just had to comment ... well, that and because I can't keep my mouth shut and my fingers still, but anyhow ...
George Jung is a typical example of childhood traumas and how they affect someone's life. Drugs were there, it was the time where drugs were hip and it was only logical that he would get involved. When there was profit he wanted more. He was even sending money to his mother because he didn't want her to complain and leave his father again. Later, he fell in love and he was doing everything for the women he loved. And then his daughter; I could definitely see the real Johnny in there. That scene at the jail when Mirtha stands aside and he suddenly sees his daughter ... OMG ... that scene alone, his face tells the whole story of George Jung! Oscar moment, if there were any.
Now, Johnny ... what can I say! That walk in the airport with Black Betty playing ... it floors me every time I watch the film! How can one man be so sexy! Even in 70s fashion!
He decided to do this movie because he's always looking for real characters to play (just think how many of his characters were real persons). About him wanting to play a father, he actually said that for Nick of Time.
Anyway, George Jung is still alive and in jail, Johnny was amazing and very convincing as George, the soundtrack is great, but I like that kind of music so don't listen to me and the critics were idiots because they accused the film of promoting drug use by making it appear glamorous Stupid me, I thought the film showed clearly that drugs can ruin yor life, if you're lucky and they don't kill you first!
Unfortunately the director of Blow, Ted Demme, died in 2002, officially of a heart attack, although cocaine was found in his body after an autopsy. Ironic, isn't it?
