I found it interesting that Smitty took his wallet away, but when he said he'd probably need some cash...he gave it to him out of his wallet. It just kind of made me go because so a big conspiracy and they can't even give him money to make sure the job gets done? And I also wondered why they didn't hire a professional hitman? It would have been MUCH cleaner and easier... but I guess I'm reading WAY too much into the story here... Anyone else??

Hmmm... I haven't noticed that (yet).. I've only seen this movie once... It will be on tv on friday here though, so if I can watch it I'll try to pay more attention (on other things than Johnny haha)!
Perhaps the professional hitman would have been too expensive... Or perhaps they just couldn't find anyone who was available or wanted to do the job.

Well, I saw it for the second time.... And about the wallet thing.... I have NO idea... Perhaps Smitty thought he could do something with it to get out of it all..

Well i think Smitty took his wallet away so that if he was caught, they couldn't Pin his exact identity on him. Or maybe that he couldn't leave clues.
And the reason they didn't hire a professional hitman is because a guy off the streets would do more what the bad guiys say because he has so much to lose. They arent professional for a reason. If he were professional, he would find a way to get around the system, to kill them and get his daughter.
Hitmen dont really have anythign to lose, so they wouldnt have that inital drive.

Like Jinx said, innocent people are waaaaaaaaaaaaay more easier to manipulate. You probably noticed Smitty and partner were scouting for candidates at the train station, trying to pick out the someone with attachments to threaten and conform. Just a darn good criminal mind...a little psychotic but it's all good.

I guess I was just thinking that money is usually enough of a drive for anyone, especially for someone that does that professionally...but then we wouldn't this story, so I guess I should just forget it LOL

Yea, true. But also, a criminal would be a lot easier to catch because they look like a hit man. Gene looked like an innocent Civilian. Which he was. So people that werent in on it didn't suspect anything!
I think tht has something to do with it to. And maybe they did the whole innocent cvilian thing so that it would get to the audience more. It would be something that could really happen to one of us!
Plus, it wouldnt be much of a movie if it were a hitman because she would have been killed in five minutes!
[sorry, im using a laptop, so if my typing is horrible, i apologize!]

yea, I started to think about that too...I mean the idea he was an innocent bystander made the story interesting and more intriquing...a kind of 'what would you do?' situation...
