This is Johnnys directorial debut.
I've taken these Johnny quotes from Christopher Heards book Depp.
On acting and directing for the film 'To tell the truth, I found doing both difficult for a lot of reasons, some common, some personal, but mostly because as an actor you have to put yourself in a trance, you have to lose contact with reality. But when you direct, it is the exact opposite. Those two opposites are really stressful to be incessantly going back and forth to.'
At Cannes in 1997 ' You walk up the red carpet, go up there, wave, go in and sit down and watch the film with 2,500 people. The film goes through the projector. No coughs. No moving shoes. You're charged, you're out of your mind, you're everything. You're dying, you're ready to vomit, you're shaking, you want nothing but to get horribly drunk. And at the same time you are really proud, and you're embrassed because you feel exposed, you know? You feel like you've just ripped your chest open and begged someone to sh*t in it.'
I hate the anguish he had to feel to do this movie.

Aww poor Johnny, but LMAO that 2nd quote had me laughing.... "It was crazy I mean, people would come up to me asking what color the red shoes should be when RED would suffice!!"

Oooh, that sounds like a book I need to have... Wow, though. I feel awful just reading that little bit. I can't really imagine how that had to feel. And it's even worse knowing that the film wasn't liked much at Cannes.

I understand what he's feeling. It doesn't matter how big or small, when you put your art out there, you're exposing yourself. It's hard, scary, and worth every minute of it.

What is wrong with critics? hmmmm...you got an hour to spare? I gave up reading what critics think eons ago, otherwise I'd never see another movie. In my opinion (SS puts on critics hat here ) A movie has to get a reaction, whether it be a good or a bad reaction, I don't care as long as it makes me feel something. Now if the director has done his/her job properly thats all it takes for me to say he/she has done their job properly. Johnny made me laugh and made me cry and *SPOILER ALERT* made me yell to the last shot "DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT ! !"

Also yes the last shot v disturbing film but deeply moving and brilliant!

The Brave is not far off belonging on that scrap heap where the film is set.
Ok, I heard it's one of Johnny's best. I hate critics. Really. I hate them more then anything.

I never listen to critics anyhow. They give 5 stars for crap films, and 2 stars for good films.

I love the writing used for all the titles shots. Its a real shame that whoever finaly got it released to DVD didn't pursue the same writing on the cover and DVD itself. Does anyone know if this is a font that you can get or is it made up for the movie? Must investigate.
