Grace brought up a great point, very thought provoking in the beginning of the film, about no matter how hard you try, you will become you parents... Do you think that's true? In a way it must be, you grow up under their guidance and begin to pick up on their ways (unless of course you make a concious decision to do other wise ) Do you have any examples of this?

Oh yeah, I have so many traits from my parents I have my mum's bad temper but I also have her love of books and writing so it's not all bad ;D Some people really do become complete versions of their parents though, I know people who are like that. I think it's important to try and become your own person .

I don't think I am much like my parents....
Many say I have my mum's stick-to-it-ness.... and sense of humor.... my father's study/work habbits... My mum's love for horses...
Other than that I really am completely myself...
It is infinitely important to be yourself Lynx, I agree 100%!

Wonderful idea for a thread Roo!! In some aspects I hope I am like my parents, and some I hope I NEVER pick up on. I have the same sarcastic/random/goofy sense of humor my Dad does, and my Mom's temper (though it takes a lot to get that out of me. My love of all animals (especially horses ) , books, and music is all me though. I feel as though i am a blend of them both, with some other unique dimensions all my own.

Must say we love that blend about you Tur! Your parents are great, but the combination in you makes you infinitely special! I don't know whether I look more like my mother or father... I've been told both. I've also been told my father looks like Ben Stiller... and some say Johnny in JM Barrie.... I don't know if I agree...

I look most like my dad. I have brown hair and eyes, as does he. My mum's blonde with blue eyes. I have her tiny hands though ;D.

Let's see... My parents play along that I'm Johnny Depp's daughter because I have his exact eye shape... his eyes are brown and mine are blue... but in every way but colour our eyes are identical... Pretty sweet! For colour they are my mum's crystal blue

I dont think we become like our parents, but we all end up with traits of theirs, weather were raised by them or not. Theres some people that never know their parents and can be exactly like them. Its unavoidable, we ARE a part of our parents, Ive come to terms with it. I have alot of my mom in me... I see it... I dont resent it.. and I dont try to hide it cuz its impossible... but its completely and utterly inevitable

I think what the problem is with "becoming our parents" is that everyone looks at the bad things/traits of them and say to themselves "I don't want to be that." I know that's what I do and it's a terrible thing to do, quite pessimestic, but that I am... I think if we focused on good things/traits of our parents, we wouldn't be so worried of becoming them. I also think that we try so hard NOT to become them that it just eventually backfires on us. I know it is on me at least...I wanted to be different and go to a 4 year university, but that's not going to happen right aftrer I get my diploma now...I hope/plan it will be happening after I get my associates, but I am not certain. I've told myself for so long that certain things that my mother and father do I don't want to do, but yet I've ended up doing them whilst doing my darndest not to! It just happens that way!

I guess that is the way of nature, we do share their genes afterall...for better or for worse. It all has to do with evolution really and how we take it to our benefit. I think we all have a choice. We can take these traits from our parents generation and use it to our advantage as we see fit. (To live life better, to improve our selves etc) Or just repeat the same character flaws of our parents and pass it on to our kiddies. But doesn't that require you to be aware of said "bad" qualities within you? What if you not aware your turning into them? Yikes! ....am I making any sense? Good points there ladies!
