Ok folks getting this place set up. Thought I might start with thoughts on the understated acting in FN. Now if you compare this role with that of Capn Jack I feel the artistry is in understating JMB rather than the "over the top" portrayal that makes Capn Jack special. As our Johnny does them both SUPERBLY wonder what you think are the difficulties in this for actors etc?

That's a good point Whimsy! I think the acting was very laid-back in this movie, because the movie itself was pretty laid-back. I think that if it had been too over-the-top, it would have taken away from the kind essence of the movie and characters. ................. Oh lordy, I just finally watched FN for only the third time! About to watch the special features now. Anyways, by the end of the movie, I was literally crying eyeliner. No matter how many times I watch it, it always gets me...

Me too. Just watched it again & have a real lump in my throat. Had a few thoughts while watching. When Sylvia says, "Even if that can never be I need to go on pretending", do you think that is her declaration of love for JMB? That really got to me tonight.

Yay! *hugs new forum* Now we've got our own Neverland... (oh gosh, that give me an idea) But that's a good question. I'd never thought of it that way. But it would be awfully sweet if Sylvia was telling James she loved him, in his own code. I just always thought she was asking him about... you know, I think I was confused the first time. I'll just accept your awfully sweet translation. So magical.

Just wonder what people think the real relationship was between them? Did they have a full blown relationship? Clearly in the film they fell in love, what do you all think?

They could have had a real relationship like that in real life. But it could have just been the screen writers and directors purogative. It was a biographical film, but even those sometimes tell half truths or fabricate things. You'd probably need to read a real biography on him to find out.

Correct. His living relatives seemed not to like the film but some sources say the truth of the relationship was far more sordid with their affair starting BEFORE Sylvia's husbands death & there is even the suggestion that her last son could be his son!! Now if this is true one would expect his living family to be happy they changed it!!! Guess only Sylvia & JMB know the trith!!

That's certainly interesting. I suppose those relatives should be too. After all, would they rather have him remembered as a lieing cheating scum bag(hey you made him sound that way) or as a dreamer who decided to befriend/fall in love with a woman trying to raise her children?

Well as for the lying cheating scumbag...he was a man after all!!!!!!!!! But I like to think a romantic who lived in something of a dream & am sure we all dream of true love.

Aww, this movie always makes me cry at the end. I loved James, he was so sweet and the relationship he had with Sylvia and the kids was adorable!
