So On the Road is, basically, about Jack Kerouac's travels around the United States. The experiences he has, the people he's encountered, you get the idea.
So what has been YOUR favorite trip? Give us a memorable story about one of your travels, or even a description of a place that you love to go! Have you been abroad? What was it like? Have you taken any memorable road trips? Share them here!! ;D

Wow. If this thread doesn't scream 'WRITE HERE,' I don't know if anything else will. *ahem* I used to like over in the UK, so that opened up a lot of vacation opportunities. But the one that sticks out in my mind most has to be that week in Rome. We stayed at a convent because of the cheap price and had to live on heaps of steel-like bread for a week. We did a lot of walking though, which makes me think of On the Road. We walked all over the city, and even saw some of the backstreets of the place-- like a Roman surburban. That trip rocked.

Favourite trip? Oh my... well too many to name, my family does nothing but travel and ride horses it seems I guess the one that stands out as most vivid and memorable to me would be years ago when I went to the Dominican Republic. It was just such an eye opening experience. I was probably somewhere around the age of 4-6 and I still can rattle off details like nothing else. It was wonderful to be exposed at such a young age to the harsh realities of a third world country, I have since been so grateful for everything I have. You really learn the value of money and what is neccessary and what you can live without. We went on a safari... and were there for Christmas, seeing how different traditions and holidays are. That the kids were so amazed for a handful of candy. How they would walk kilometers upon kilometers day after day for water or feed for the donkies. Just a different way of life. I'm still in contact with some people we met on that trip. Very eye opening. I wouldn't be who I was having not gone on that.

Wow! Thank you, Artisan and Roo, for sharing those trips with JA! That's just the sort of thing I had in mind when I made this thread... what wonderful experiences. Do you guys have any pictures that you'd like to share? I haven't been to the Dominican Republic or Rome, so I'd love to see some of it!

Pictures of Rome, eh? Tricky. But I might be able to slip one or two pics of the Colliseum up here sometime next week. Sound good?
