Gene actually said that he hated Johnny's performance and that the onyl reason why they did a remake was to make some fast money. I thought: "Okay, why else do people make movies Gene? And furthermore, i could ahve sworn Johnny was one of the highest paid, highest respected actors in Hollywood.....and well, you're not." I like Gene's performance, but i loved Johnny's becasue he did that part for children and i think Gene did it just as a role, not really considering the wide range of people he would be entertaining in the future: no doube, he was good, but at times i found him too cynic and too sarcastic to be appelaing for children. Johnny was perfect for the children. I work in a daycare and to this day, the kids go crazy when they see me wear my Willy Wonka t-shirts. They sing the Wonka Welcome Song constantly!

Hi,
I like JD's! His Willy makes me laugh!!! Gene was great but I'd rather watch Johnny. Gene creeps me out!

I actually hadn't seen Gene's version until after I saw Johnny's! Johnny's Willy was funnier, I laughed practically throughout the whole thing. I loved the songs from it too. Gene's Willy wasn't as funny and it was boring in parts.

No disrespect for Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka, but I'm a Depp fan. duh.

I feel like such a traitor right now but because I saw the Gene Wilder movie when I was little that has always been my interpretation or the film. Not that I didn't like the Johnny/Burton one but.. yeah.

Gene Wilder's version was my favourite for a long time (probably only because that was the ONLY one I'd ever seen). But now, well, you can guess what I'm going to say... I like Johnny's better. He creeps the heck outta me, and he is SO quirky. What's not to love? Plus, Burton did it. Another reason for my love of the movie.
