It depends on where you are to the island...Savvy? AYE! ;D HF, got it mostly right... here I'll explain again. A normal compass always points North. You find out which direction you are going by turning the compass so that the 'North' mark is under the pointer, which is always pointing North. Then which ever direction marker is poining ahead of you tells which way you are going. Are we all clear on that? Alright then... Norry is a navy captain/commodore. He's been around ships all his life and the dude knows which direction North is from the dock... without a compass. So he looks at Jack's compass (which is pointing to the island, NOT North. We must assume that the island is not North of them.) and sees that it's not pointing North, therefore it must be defective. Now we can't tell which way the island is, because as far as I can tell, there are no direction markers on Jack's compass... which makes sense because it doesn't always point in the same direction. Because it depends on where you are in relation to Isla de Muerta. If you are West of it, it will point East. If you are South of it, it will point North. Savvy?

I have another question about POTC...if there was a munituny on Jack, how did he know where the island was, since he didn't go the first time(You can only find it if you already know where it is)...If It was because he has the compass, how did he get that in the first place?!?!?!

"Not much is know about Jack Sparrow beofre he showed up in Tortuga with a mind to go after the treasure of the Isla De Muerta." Here's what we know... ~ Jack got the compass, but we don't know how or where or from whom. ~ He told Barbossa the location of the treasure. "He gave up the bearings." ~ He didn't give Barbossa the compass. So maybe ol' Jack had been there before. We just don't know.
