This show is quickly becoming my new favorite. Basically, it's about a pie maker named Ned who can resasitate people in order to find out how they died. However, he can only keep them "alive" for a minute or else something else will die in their place. Another twist is if he touches something once it will return to life, however if he touches it twice it will become dead and stay that way. A better summary can be found here - abc.go.com/primetime/pushingdaisies/indexIt's wonderfully off-beat and has a great cast - Jim Dale does the narration! How awesome is that?

Hehe, that's what I thought when I first saw it.
My initial reaction was "It's like a lovechild between Tim Burton and Six Feet Under only not as dark as the latter..."
But I love it.... in all it's bittersweetness.

I thought of 'Dead Like Me' rather than 'Six Feet Under' but the similarities are there. -Fiend

Yeah, Dead Like Me! That's what I was thinking of! XD
(I somehow got that confused with Six Feet Under...which is also a marvellous show.)

The more and more I watch, the more I pick up on Tim Burton-esque references (well, not references per se, just things that remind me of Tim Burton's films).
For instance - the relationship between Olive and Ned reminds me of the relationship between Jack and Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas). Jack is so enthralled about taking over Christmas he fails to realise Sally's feelings for him, much like Ned is so enthralled about having Chuck again that he doesn't really pay attention to Olive's love for him. (In a way I think he might, but doesn't quite fancy her in that way).
Because he can't touch Chuck again or else she'll be gone forever, I get reminded of Edward Scissorhands. Particularly the scene where Kim asks Edward to hold her and he sadly responds, "I can't." Outside of plastic wrap kisses, beesuit hugs, and a plexiboard with a cut out glove hole in the car, Ned and Chuck can't come into physical contact. Which is one of the main reasons why this show has such a bittersweet edge to it.
And in a way, it also reminds me of Corpse Bride, mainly because Emerson makes a quip about Chuck being "the corpse bride".

I think the sets are what reminds me of TB's films the most. Especially the super-saturated happy land that is Creve Cour. It's just somehow got TB's same sense of the surreal to it all. Good stuff. I hope it comes back soon! Hopefully the Golden Globe nominations will help. -Fiend
