Whether you've seen the movie or not, feel free to discuss the movie here! However... if you're going to be adding spoilers, please say so! Please only discuss "A Nightmare on Elm Street" here. There's a thread here to discuss the other movies as well

Okay, sooo I figured this place needs livened up.
anyways..Thanks to Family Video, I am obsessed with "A Nightmare on Elm Street", I find it amazing for a lack of better words. The nightmare scenes are great, somewhat cheesey-ish, seeing as it is a series of movies from the 80's, and special effects werent as good as they are now.
I remember the first time I watched it. It was like 3 in the morning and it was really stormy outside, I was upstairs in our spare bedroom on the futon, and the futon was actually shaking because the wind was that strong. Anyways, the movie + the wind kinda scared me..so after the movie was over I couldnt get to sleep..I finally fell asleep around 5:00 or 5:30 and I had to be up at 6:00 because I had a speech team contest.
So yeah thats my story about the first time that I saw "A Nightmare on Elm Street".

oooh spookiness. And that sucks that you didn't get any sleep.
I saw it for the first time when I was 12 years old. I taped it off tv. My parents caught me watching it, and I got in big trouble. They took the tape away and hid it in their room. But me being the little trouble maker I was, I didn't give up. I went in their room and switched tapes. And after that my parents gave up on trying to control what I watched. ;D

I wonder why I enjoyed ANOES??...hmmm #rolleyes#

I'm glad you enjoyed it Bex. ;D And yes, having Johnny there certainly made it much better.
For some odd reason, Freddy has never scared me. Actually I've found him to be quite funny, with his one liners and all. However, those don't really start to show up until the 2nd film. I've always thought of him to be pretty cheesy, in comparison to say, Michael Myers from "Halloween" and Jason of "Friday The 13th".
If you ever get the chance to see the other Nightmare on Elm Street films, I highly recommend them. They are cheesy, but something about them has always appealed to me. The 3rd is my favorite. ;D
What was your favorite part of the film Bex?

Erm...I liked the ending actually, I thought it was quite funny. When they're all back together in the car, it shuts all up on its own and Nancy's mum is stood at the door. Then, Freddy's arm comes through the little window and pulls her through - it looked really fake and it made me laugh. I thought the special effects were going to be awfully cheesey but I didn't think they were too bad, especially for over 20 yerars ago! It was that one at the end! I was thinking what a way to end it... #rotfl#

Yeah. This film wasn't quite as cheesy as the other Nightmare films. I think this is mainly due to the fact that you really don't see much of Freddy. He's mainly in the shadows, in the corner of the frame, or in the dark. In the films that follow, Freddy is more visible.
And yes, it would be easy to expect it to be cheesy because of it's age. It's almost 23 years old! (And just over a month older than me!). It's crazy to think that little film started a whole movie franchise. Johnny is a part of horror movie history now, as he was in the film that started the A Nightmare on Elm Street craze, which still lives on today.

I absolutely agree with you, and it's so weird to think that this is the movie that started Johnny's career and all the wonderful movies he made over more then 23 years now just this little weird part that wasen't anything like Johnny himself is wich started everything for both Johnny and Nightmare on Elm Street magical isn't it ;D

Yeah, it's strange when you think about it like that! I watched it again last night, but I was with my sister that time. Every time Johnny came on she started talking!! I think she was doing it on purpose, she certainly knows how to get me stressed! haha!

I absolutely hate it when that happens a few weeks ago I was watching The Ninth Gate with my parents and they kept talking and talking and they were making fun of me because I have this huge smile on my face when Johnny says something or does something or comes on screen and they made me angry and they really got me stressed and you can feel your blood boiling then I mean come on can't they at least for once act normal

Yes that is quite annoying. I've never had that happen with any Johnny movies, but once we (my parents and I) were watching a movie, I think it was "The Sixth Sense", and my mom told me the ending half way through the movie. I was livid!
But anywho. Back to the wonderful world of ANOES.
Did anyone see Johnny's quick cameo in the 6th ANOES film, Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare?

Yes I saw Johnny's cameo in ANOES 6 actually I was watching it a few days ago again and It's so quick but so amazing actually it's only a few sentence and BAM he blows you away only if he says a few sentences it's amazing and I found the part so funny too but still why does Freddy has to get Johnny everytime I mean in ANOES1 and in 6. maybe we should kick Freddy'ssmeepfor what he did to Glen and Noodlemantra what do you think Warrior

Oh believe me TM, I've kicked Freddy's behind from here to Timbuktu on numerous occasions. It's just that pesky eternal life thing that gets in the way. Any who, yes it totally isn't fair that Johnny's characters in both movies get whacked. My poor Oppie and Glennie. This is kinda OT, but if you watch Wes Craven's New Nightmare, the 7th (and possibly scariest) film, you can see Johnny in a picture with the original ANOES cast sitting on Wes Craven's book shelf.
