OK.
I've now seen the film 4 times and listen to the soundtrack at least 200. And I've realized that things I thought originally to be in the right place are, in fact, not. How aggravating. AND! There are lots of great cues, that I heard in the movie, which are not on the soundtrack. Double aggravating.
Namely, Track 11 (I Don't Think Now is the Best Time) is all wrong. The first 5 minutes are a different piece of music, which I have now confirmed goes over the destruction of The Endeavor and Lord Cutler Beckett. After that it changes to the moment where Jack escapes the brig on the Dutchman and continues on to the moment where the name came from. But it doesn't finish! There is a gorgeous bit that is heard when Jack and Elizabeth escape the sinking Dutchman on the sail-parachute. It's one of my favorites, and it's not on the CD! No fair!
Track 2 (Singapore) is also guilty. There is way more music in this scene that should've been on the soundtrack. During the battle, there is this really cool version of 'Hoist the Colours' in the singapore style. Why would they leave that off?! No fair again!
Track 6 (I See Dead People in Boats) is also wrong. I never heard any of this in that whole scene. I haven't yet figured out where it goes, but not here.
Track 3 (At Wit's End) is just a mess. Ok, it starts out fine- at the start of the journey- in the icy waters. Then it goes to the music box theme, which would be fine because the film cuts to Jones next... but it's not quite right. I'll show you.
In the movie things happen in this order with the following music:
Leaving Singapore "...even the most staunch and blood-thirsty pirates have come to fear."(nothing)
Jones destroying pirate ships (Davy Jones (music box) theme in full orchestra)
Beckett and Mercer gonna kill the Gov. (nothing)
Jones at the organ and starts to cry (music box theme w/ organ counter-melody)
Beckett and Co. board the Dutchman and piss off jones. (nothing)
Then we resume the journey to the Locker. (most of Track 3)
But Track 3 goes in this order:
We resume the journey to the Locker in the icy waters. (Begins Track 3)
Sailing in star-filled night. (Music box theme w/ new AWE theme counter-melody)
Jones destroying pirate ships (Davy Jones (music box) theme in full orchestra)
They fall off the world's end. (End of Track 3)
See? It's all mixed-up. *shakes head*
I've also figured out the whole love theme/hero theme problem. There's really no separate hero theme and love theme. They are both one in the same (just like CotBP). Speed it up and it's heroic. Slow it down and it's romantic. Easy peasy.
There is one little melody though that could be called the Will/Elizabeth love theme, but it's very short and actually could be considered part of the other theme, but you hear it everytime there's a smooch.
