So I saw this movie at 12:01 AM today with four of my friends. There were three showings at my theatre and Im pretty sure all three were sold out.
Anyways, this was the first Batman movie Ive ever been excited for, mostly for the fact that it has Heath Ledger in it. This movie is about 100x better than Batman Begins (IMO)..I honestly dont want to give much away, and Im sure a lot of us have seen the trailers so Im just making this thread to see if anyone else saw the midnight showing of it.
Oh yes, and I believe that Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar nod, if not the posthumous oscar. Not because he is dead but because in this movie he became a completely different person all together, you forget that it is Heath as your watching the movie, and its true that when you leave the theatre, it hits you that it was Heath playing the Joker, and that Heath is dead. I was afraid I was going to cry during the movie, but I didnt, there was one time I came really close to tearing up. Ask me if you want to know what part, and I'll PM you.
This is one of those movies where I cant choose a favourite quote, the Joker had a ton of great quotes.

I saw it yesterday. It was so amazing. I just sat there after it finished in awe. It was just so... amazing. And I agree Wonder, if Heath Ledger doesn't get an oscar for this, there is really something wrong. His acting was just so perfect and he played the role just so .. perfect. I am / was just literally speechless. Plus, I loves Batman Begins so much, and I think this is the first time I have ever actually liked and sequel better. I watched Batman Begins the night before I saw it so that really hyped it up for me. I was so excited. This was just one of the best movies I have ever seen. Everything about it was so perfect. Oh. Except for one thing. It wasn't the same without Kate Holmes. Maggie Gylenhale just wasn't as good Rachel. Anyway, in short, I absolutly, definatly, times infinity loved it so much!

Hi, I saw this movie yesterday and was blown away. I have to disagree that Heath will get an Oscar though It was A GREAT performance & I couldn't take me eyes away but I don't think that he will get it. They don't usually give Oscars for those kind of roles. Look @ Johnny and his Captain. If Heath deserves it than Johnny did too. Makeup on the other hand is another story & what about Harvey?? Don't want to give it away because I wasn't expecting it. I mean, I wasn't expecting it in this movie, you know? Anyway, anyone think it was just a tad long, after the Joker left the scene?

Oh. Except for one thing. It wasn't the same without Kate Holmes. Maggie Gylenhale just wasn't as good Rachel. I had never seen Batman Begins (until after I saw The Dark Knight) and I like Maggie as an actress more than I like Katie, so for me Maggie was the better choice. but I understand your opinion.

Like you Wonder, I think that I would like Maggie better if I had seen The Dark Knight first, but because I saw Batman Begins first, (many many times) that was what I was used to.

So just a little something I posted on three IMDb boards (Johnny Depp, Heath Ledger, and Dark Knight boards)
Sick and tired of 'Johnny Depp as Joker?' threads
It would NEVER work, and if Nolan is smart he will just use another villian in his next movie..the only time there should be a new joker is if a NEW franchise begins. I mean yeah all the batman movies can be categorized into one franchise, but then there's the '66 version...Burton's franchise, whoever did Batman and Robin, and then Nolan's franchise.
I am a fan of Johnny (and apparently at 2:30 in the morning I like be captain obvious) but in my opinion there is absolutely noone who can match up to Ledger's Joker, and therefor there shouldnt be another Joker in Nolan's franchise.
oh and I remember someone saying that Johnny and Heath look alike...was this person blind? because I can see no similarities in them except the same jawline structure. if you really want to go off of looks its Joseph Gordon-Levitt who looks like Heath Ledger.
anyways, if I see one more 'Johnny Depp as Joker' thread Im gonna go off on the person who started it.

Oh and, my text ringtone is now 'Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we are tonights Entertainment!' (the scene is up on youtube so I downloaded it to mp3 and made that part of it a ringtone)

I just saw it in Imax (and to be honest, I don't know if it would have been as fun if I hadn't) but it wasn't a bad movie. It's pretty much bang on the money for your average summer blockbuster: lots of explosions, lots of dying and full of action. Not bad.
I still have to give props to Alfred for continually being awesome, and Harvey Dent for being the unluckiest sot in the whole movie. I felt more for Harvey's arc, as it were, and I think I just liked him more as a character than the Joker. Much more tragic, slightly more interesting and I think it got shunted into the background in favour of having more Joker. Which is appropriate, given that Harvey is so big on chance and luck, and it was not at all lucky that the Joker arrived when he did. However, I just felt the movie was too long, and it might've benefited from a sequel. But that's just me.
Imax was nice though--the seats rumble when there's loud sounds and stuff and when Batman was riding his bike, it kinda felt like you were riding his bike as well. And don't get me started on gunshots.
Also, Batman would've benefited from some Patrick Bateman treatment. Just saying.

Im not trying to be mean to you Arena's, as I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But it really bothers me when people think that The Dark Knight is to long. It's two hours and fourty-five minutes (give or take with credits) which is the average time for a movie. So honestly it wasnt 'too' long.
anyways I'm hoping to see it again tomorrow.

Went to see it in Imax with 'renas, cause we're chill like that. Got to say. She went to the bathroom at the most laughable moment in the film and almost missed the scene with the Joker being a candy striper.
But like her, I agree (and I work at a cinema, I even have popular authority here) the movie would have benefited had it been 20 minutes shorter and the fights scenes being more panoramic rather than close up.
I did like it though. Big explosions always make me happy, just like superhero tropes! Yes, even the death to the strong female lead. I love it when the bad guys sorta win. Even if it isn't complete victory. Anything with an ambiguous ending gets cookies from me.

She almost missed it. She came back right as the Joker went into the hospital room still in that fantabulous wig.

If the movie had been shorter, it wouldn't have been a problem. But yes, Nurse!Joker was very....composed? Dignified? Wiggly? It was hot.

Indeed it was very hot.
I think it was the contrast of the nurse gown and his awesome spectacular muscles

Get this, everyone -- I bought my ticket a week in advance because well, DARK KNIGHT! So Thursday comes, I ahem, give up half of my shift at work just so I can go (I work from 8pm-12am usually, I was gonna work 8-10pm, see?), I walk into work at 7:50, see that there's an 8 hour mandate on, turn around and run away, drive to the nearest pay phone and call in sick. I then hang about and watch Blackpool til 10 or so, go pick up my sisters, brother and best friend and we hit the theater. The line was already wrapped around the building when we got there at 10:30. We stand around and chat and point out all of the neat/silly costumes and get overall even more exicted than we already were. We get in. We manage to get seats for like 7 people, not an easy feat. The previews start. (Watchmen looks cool. Yea for Smashing Pumpkins music!) The movie starts. It goes for about ten minutes when... THE FILM BURNS OFF OF THE SCREEN. Mass panic erupts. Naturally. People immediately run to the manager/head honcho/whatever. People freak out. People want their batman! People getting angry. Riot is whispered about. Kind guy yells out "They're fixing it!" Everyone shuts up. "It'll be a few minutes!" Peace returns. Chatter continues. Jokes are made about how it was an awesome ten minutes of a movie. And then... THE COPS SHOW UP AND TELL US THAT WE HAVETA EVACUATE THE BUILDING BECAUSE THERE'S BEEN A BOMB THREAT. Yup. That was my evening. We all headed out to steak n shake and came back the next morning at 9:30 am with our theater-issued return passes and saw it. It was amazing by the way. Eventually. -Fiend

Well, sounds like you had an interesting night Fiend. ;D At least you got to see it in the end, personally, I think it might have been quite amusing. Apart from the bit about a bomb threat.
