I love this movie. It's very different from Johnny's other movies. First of all, I feel bad for Sweeney/Benjamin. The poor guy did nothing wrong and he got sent away for 15 years, his wife gets raped and ends up living on the streets, and his daughter gets adopted - all by the same person. I can understand how angry he must've felt. I think that Mrs. Lovett was a bad influence on Sweeney. If she hadn't lied to him about Lucy being alive, I think the story would've been very different. Sweeney would've found Lucy and they would focus on trying to save Johanna from Turpin's clutches and probably would've gotten revenge on him and Beadle. It was Mrs. Lovett's idea to use human meat for her pies. I don't know if Sweeney would've ever thought of that. I really didn't like how Sweeney agreed to that and killed innocent people. They didn't have anything to do with Benji's tradegy (unless they were part of the jury or something) so why kill them?! I liked how he didn't kill the one man in front of that woman and her child. I couldn't believe she suggested that Sweeney kill Anthony too! The end was really sad. I can't imagine the sadness and guilt he must've felt when he found out that he killed Lucy. And he almost killed Johanna too! If Toby hadn't killed Sweeney, what do you think would've happened to him? I think he might've committed suicide. When he came back as Sweeney, he was so intent about getting his revenge. It was what he lived for, all he could think about. When it was all over, what would he do? The guilt over killing his beloved Lucy would probably consume him too. It would've been neat if Sweeney ran away with Anthony and Johanna. Then he could've had the chance to get to know Johanna and would've had the chance to be a father again.
