Welcome to the first poll for the Sweeney Todd board.
This is an easy one: Why do we all like this movie? For me, everything works so nicely together. At first it was just because of Johnny and Tim but now I'm hooked. Please think of this as a talking point. I look forward to reading & discussing with you, the man I love. If anyone has an idea for other polls please post in the the Devil's Wife Cafe.

My initial gut reaction was to go for 'Johnny, just Johnny!' but then I do love period movies especially when they're set in my native London...so I had to go for a combination. I think London acts like another character in this film, the closely set, oppressive nature of the streets...the dirt, the grime...London society...and the accent, of course . I'm going to have to watch this film again...it's been too long!

The cannibalism. Anyone can have a musical about London. One about London with revenge and liberally sprinkled with human meat pies? That's another ballgame. (A delightful and sinfully delicious ballgame...)
Oh, and Alan Rickman. Alan Rickman's cool people.

Arenas,
Actually I thought all the blood would bother me. It didn't. It isn't however the only reason I watch! That will be the next poll, I think, it is halloween after all! Thanks for your imput.

The cool thing about Burton is that he's so completely over the top that you tend to stop taking him completely seriously, i.e. that amount of blood. It got pretty cartoonish, an hyperbole. It also didn't help that it wasn't actually blood-coloured. That was an artistic call--it made the blood stand out vividly from the dingy greys and blues.

Oh yeah, I agree. I thought I would have trouble watching it...I don't like horror...but it was very Sleepy Hollow-esque and there wasn't much creeping tension. The only bit I really had to watch through my fingers was the first death because it was so vicious and took so long! That he is. On a totally off topic note, my mum and sister sat behind Alan Rickman in the theatre to watch Equus. Good times.

The whole pie Take one little bitty piece out and it wouldn't have been the same. When I did my teacher training for hairdressing I had to learn the art of shaving with a cut throat razor, boy did I have flashbacks during this movie. ~SS~

First and foremost, yay! I'm glad Sweeney's on the board ;D
The whole show was fantastic so how can i pick one? The music, the singing, the acting... all fantastic. I also love period movies ♥ Helena & Johanna's outifits were beautiful. I've always wanted to wear a big dress haha.

I loved it because of, well, everything. The cast, the storyline, and (dare I say) the singing? Musicals aren't really my thing (but I do love Moulin Rouge!), but Sweeney Todd won me over big time.
