I was thinking about what happened to Mirtha and I found an article by Ted Demme that said this: It's a bit old it came out in 2001, but I couldn't believe it when I read it. I would have to agree with what Ted said. It was brave of her to finally stop taking drugs and she managed to stay clean for 20 years. That's pretty impressive. After I saw the movie I thought she would never have been able to drag herself out of that life. Source

The power that children can have. Without her daughter I bet Mirtha would never have had the strength to pull herself out of that lifestyle. Good for her!

I know, it's really surprising especially because I think she was doing drugs for a long time. Even before she met George - she was engaged to a drug lord so I'm assuming she did drugs then too.
