I pretty much love this show. For those who may not know, the musical adaptation by Boublil and Schonberg was based on Victor Hugo's novel. A very brief summary of the musical: It follows the story of Jean Valjean, a wrongly accused man who has spent 19 years in prison. Upon his release, he is treated lesser than equal and ultimately changes his identity to get a job as a mayor. Javert, an inspector who is obsessed with the law, follows Valjean. When Valjean reveals his true identity, Javert confronts him at the bedside of Fantine, a dying mother whose daughter Valjean has promised to take into custody. It's a story of human hope and perseverance, set against the historical backdrop of the student uprising in Paris. I've seen the show roughly six or so times, and worked on it for a few weeks. It is truly wonderful and epic. I just started reading the novel (there's quite a lot to digest!) Oh yes, an awesome musical, I really will have to buy the soundtrack at some point . I've seen it once in London and it made me cry. I don't think any film version does it justice but the stage version is magnificent.
