"See it, but don’t bother trying to follow it or you’ll end up ruining it for yourself. " "Go for Depp. Go for Rodgrigeuz behind the camera. Don't go for a story you can sink your teeth into because you'll just end up chipping your tooth. " -------------------------------------------------------------- These were two reviews I found for OUaTiM, and quite frankly, I think that the attention spans of the reviewers were just too short. I managed to follow the plot just fine . . . and I hadn't seen Desperado, much less El Mariachi. I went into the theater without a clue, and I came out knowing exactly what lines and plots had been set up, where they had intersected, and where they had gone bad. All you really had to do was listen. Anyway. I wanted to know what ya'll thought. Did you have trouble following the plot, or has too much Seasame Street destroyed these people's attention spans? Although I do agree about the part about going to see Johnny. That's how they reeled me in.

Heh! Yes, go for Johnny. I found the plot to be a little bit diluted myself. But I disagree that you couldn't follow it. I followed it just fine. Three revenge plots in one movie is a bit much, but I think Robert did all right. I think what we're seeing is a writer who truly loves each of his characters equally. All three of our "heroes", El, Sands, and Jorge, are each someone we can really root for. I think Robert got each of them so clearly in his mind, that he couldn't let them go without being fully developed and then each having their moment in the sun. El kills the general, Jorge kills Barillo, and Sands kills Ajedrez. I liked it, myself, although it did make the plotline a little divergant.

I didn't think it was confusing at all. Sure, there is certainly a hell of a lot going on in a two hour period, but that's what makes it fun. See it with Desperado. That one was simple and wonderful, and this one was yes, complicated, but just as wonderful. And double features are always fun. And I didn't have any trouble following the plot, sure, it got easier the second and third and fourth and tenth times I saw it, but what movie doesn't? -FF

Confusing? Pffft! Nah, I like a good twisting-turning plot that makes you pay attention and think. Those movies, for me, are the most fun to watch! I agree about seeing Desperado though. Those it's not necessary to understand OUATIM, it certainly does help. Just as seeing El Mariachi helps with Desperado. Not vital, but helpful.

When I first saw it, I had a hard time grasping what was going on, mainly since I had my grandma and her oh-so-irritating commentary in my ear the whole time. Which is why I saw it twice more. I also saw it twice more because it is a fantastic movie, as well as the easily forgettable fact that I missed the Malaguena barfight opening scene. But no, once I actually got to listen to the movie, it wasn't confusing at all.
It only got confusing once I had to explain it all to my sister, who has a hard time grasping situations of certain complications, atleast for her, being only 13. But no, not confusing. -DaDi

I have to admit, I was having some difficulty following along, but it wasn't that hard to grasp the plot. It's basically revenge with other side stories, am I right?
BUT, the thing I did find confusing was the consistant change of alliances. Every where you turned, someone was betraying someone else and then they diiiiiiied.

I got a little confused, but that may have just been because I was too busy staring at Johnny ;D

The first time around I think my head was spinning a bit...so much going on. Plus I never saw either or the previous movies. But after multiple times now everything makes sense.

It made no sense to me whatsoever, I mean i followed it but it was those little details about who wanted who dead and who was supposed to do it that threw me off. Every time I see it I pick up something elsethat explains a little more but you know me and action films don't get along real well.

I think you kind of have to have an accord with those kinds of movies, promise to keep watching them until you get every little detail until the story's explained to your satisfaction. Certainly takes dedication, but well...it's Johnny so that's not much of a problem. Or you can be one of the lucky ones that just gets it on the first viewing, in which case, I salute you. Careful with the lower-case commenting and spelling, please, Fabuloso.

I still have yet to see desperado, and I still never got confused about the plot... I don't think most reviews about movies that johnny is in do him any justice.. is that just me? p.s. whats el mariachi? pre desperado movie?
