I just noticed something about Sands that is distinctly different from Johnny's other long-haired characters. Sands, unlike Sam or Roux or Gilbert or even Johnny, doesn't like his hair in his face. I noticed it's either always behind his ears, under a hat or tied back. I think this is an interesting part of the character, with the idea that he doesn't like anything to impede his view at all. His ability to see and observe like a hawk is central to his own self image and protection. Yet he's the character who loses his eyes. I love stuff like that.  |

LMAO, wow DB, nice observation there. Yea, it sucks he can't even see anymore, I wonder if he still would push his hair back, even when he has no eyes at all   |

That's an amazing discovery there, DB!  I love it! ;D I never really thought about it, but you are so right. I did notice at times that Sands' hair was tucked behind his ears, and just didn't think twice about it... it should have registered with me as a little odd.  You know, I wonder if that was an intentional thing that Johnny did? *ponders* Hmmm. |

It's definitely the kind of thing that would be an actor's choice, although I can also see Robert coming up with it.  One way or the other, I think it must've been done on purpose, as so many of Johnny's other long-haired roles always have the hair in his face. Hair out of his face is oh-so out of character for Johnny, but oh-so perfect for Sands. I think it must've been intentional on either his or Robert's part. |

HF here with a theory. I think I know how Sands style and such was created  In the new "In Style" magazine, they put a little section about what stars recommend. Johnny recommended a book called "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates" by Tom Robbins. He said its about a CIA agent who has a taste for sex, drugs, money, and rock and roll, plus the supernatural. *shrugg* You never know! And then Johnny added a little "Wow...what a combo!" at the end ;D |

Another thought about the whole eyes thing --> he's always wearing sunglasses. In the general public, they're always on. They come off for certain people (Ajedrez, El, Ramirez), but stay on around Belini and the president's aide. Think that's a level of trust issue or something? I've noticed that, with the exception of one scene with Belini, he doesn't wear sunglasses when he's inside. He only wears them outside or when he's getting ready to go outside. I think he mostly uses them for the utilitarian purpose of shade. He's not shy to take them off--he likes direct eye contact, from what I can tell. Although you're right--he keeps his purple shades on in that first meeting with Belini. It could very well show a simple lack of trust or respect. Eeeexcellent observation, Psnoo! |

My cousin worked for the Secret Service, he says that its natural for people in the service if they have long hair, to have it tied back or pushed back, because they need nothing to have their vision covered. I dunno.. he was rambling so I didnt listen much, at the moment I didnt care because I was watching the movie and I mentioned that his hair was back.. and thats when he started.. anyway.. yeah.. he said they dont want anything to block their vision.. they have to have good eyes too which is why I cant join .. I have bad eyes..  okay but yeah... if his hair was in his face, he wouldnt be able to see to the sides or anything cuz his hair was in the way.. do I make sense? lol but then again, Ive seen a few movies where ppl, girls in particular have their hair all over, so **shrug** who knows.. but the glasses bit.. I dunno.. I noticed that too.. I love that! |

Wow... that's pretty sweet! I've read the book before I'd known Johnny recommended it and I have to admit, there are quite a few similarities between Sands and Switters (the hero of 'Fierce Invalids') besides their fondness for going by their last name. That's very interesting... I'll have to reread it.
