I'm thinking Johnny did it to be more gypsy like...but you have a point about the guitar thing. I'm not sure if there is an official reason, let's see what other people come up with.

Actually, its better to cut fingernails when playing the guitar because its hard to hold down the strings for chords when your playing with long nails. Never noticed it, but I guess its what Lynx was thinking, to be more gypsy like. And you know, being a gypsy and all, who has time to cut their nails?

Well you could never actually tell that both hands were long, i think it was only is right hand, which would strum the guitar, so he probobly didn't have anything like a pick...or he was using it to sniff cocaine........not really, lol.

yes PW thankyou for adding that ijn for me i forgot to say that little snippet. The long nails are only on one hand and only on some of his fingers...and i was thinking maybe those are the fingers he strums with.

Oh!! My old orchestra helper played guitar and the nails on his "strumming hand" were soo long... apperently it's like hands-on chips!

Actually, its better to cut fingernails when playing the guitar because its hard to hold down the strings for chords when your playing with long nails. But, when you play percussion I think it is good to have long nails, because my percussion instructs are LONG.

Aye, long fingernails on your right hand helps with picking the strings. Strumming is no prob either way, but long fingernails means you don't need a pick. Or were some of you calling it a chip? I guess that's the same thing. ;D Picking is when you play the strings separately instead of all together in a strum.

Thats what i was thinking..because a river rat cant carry a pick with him everywhere he goes..why not just use your nails right?
