"But the R rating upsets me. I have no problem showing this to some children. When I was a kid I felt if I didn't have these [horror] movies, I don't know what I would have turned into. These movies helped me. I tried to keep Sleepy Hollow in that zone, and this is the type of movie I would have died to see [as a child]. That's what we wanted to do." lol I thought this particular quote was funny. He didn't know what he'd turn into...lol he's one of the weirdest and oddest film people out there, and thats what makes him so cool! lol ok maybe it's could have been a PG13 movie, but Um, I still agree with the R. I mean look at Harry Potter 3, they made it PG and people were getting SO mad, thinking it should be PG13...I thought it didnt need it, but you know some people... Wait, who here can watch R movies that arent the right age? Just go over to a friends house to watch them, I know you have a friend who's parents won't mind. Ya this movie is not as bad as lets say....From Hell. Now that I almost couldn't handle... I guess because it deals with real life and this one is fantasy...and way more gore...

I always wondered why it was rated R. I mean, yes it's a little bloody/gory but I've seen bloodier movies with only PG13 ratings!

I'd imagine so. The R rating in the US means no one under 17 can get in without an adult.

Just wondering... #ot# I was thinking, Sweeney Todd is supposed to be an R rating so if that is an 18 in the UK I wouldn't be able to see it at the cinema! #ot# lol. There is an NC17 rating. No one can get in under 17 not even with a parent. Have someone older take you to see Sweeney Todd.

Do you have any older friends that could go with you? Or could you pass for 18? I'm such a bad influence. Hehehe... so off topic. I don't like that Sleepy Hollow is rated R, but I can see why it would be. I think ratings board forgets that kids these days aren't as impressionable or innocent as they think.

Yeah, I could pass for 18 I suppose and my parents wouldn't mind me watching that.
I always thought that an R rating was equal to a 15 in the UK...gutted.
Yeah , I agree, there has been scarier movies than Sleepy Hollow that have had a lower rating.

R is equivalent to 18 in the UK but Sleepy Hollow is a 15 over here. I think the reason for its high rating in America is because it deals with the supernatural versus religion. Anything like that is usually R rated for you guys, right? Take The Ninth Gate, that's probably R rated for you but it's a 15 for me. You guys have tougher rating rules regarding sexual scenes too so I expect that plus the religious aspect bumped the rating up rather than the violence.
Does that make sense?

I've never really looked into how America rates movies but that does make more sense, I think. ha Thanks Jay. It helps having people from across the pond, as well as everywhere else, to give us the scoop on how things are run where they live.

Yeah, I finally looked on the DVD case, that's good because now that probably means that Sweeney Todd will only be a 15 too =D ( Sorry, off topic!)
