Hmmm. That's an interesting perspective ;D I never thought of it like that...
I thought he was an all around good character.
You know when Gilbert is getting all worried about calling Mr Carver?
Do you think Mr Carver really knew about the affair?

Sometimes i feel like he does know about the affair. The way he looks at Gilbert, the look in his eyes as he tips Gilbert, and the things he says...many of them have double meanings. But then sometimes I feel like he is just a really friendly guy. He had to have had SOME idea...don't you think?!

I really don't know how to go about answering this... In the film they make it seem as though he knows... but then it turns out he really wanted to talk to Gilbert about insurance... but maybe he wanted to say more if he hadn't been interupted by Betty's phone call.
Lasse left a lot of loose ends for interpretation...
I honestly would think he didn't know.... just because he seems the type to be totally disconnected from that...

I think he did know but he was so desperate for his wife to be happy that he was willing to turn a blind eye. He probably didn't want the scandal either. That's how I saw it

It's amazing what people are willing to over look to keep their love strong... or at least sacrifice to try to.
I think he was trying to please her with everything he knew how to do....
But Gilbert did it for her better....

Sometimes I think he did know about the affair and sometimes I don't.. I do think he must have had some idea... aaargh! I don't know....
But how about Mr Carvers death then... Pretty weird circomstances, right?

I don't know if she killed him or if he killed himself... because he couldn't take it....
What do you think?

*takes a deep breath* there are three different ways that I look at this. 1) Could she have been so casual about killing her husband? Would she have had the guts to kill him? Somehow I don't think so...so I really don't believe that Betty killed him. 2) Killing himself. He had a lot going for him. An easygoing personality, a great business, etc. Sure he may have been fed up with his wife, but realistically he could have divorced her. So I don't think he killed himself. 3) Heart Attack like it was stated by the funeral home. I think this is the most likely way it happened. He was obviously very stressed out all the time (family problems, work problems, etc), and he certainly wasn't getting any younger. We do know that he was very upset and angry right before he died (burnt cookie scene/pool scene) and this could easily have triggered a heart attack. SO thats what I think happened. Heart attack with terrible timing. Sunny

I LOVE this movie! I'll admit when I first saw it, I cuaght it in the middle and didnt like it much. But then I saw it all the way through and I love it! I can connect with Gilbert to a point, becuase I work with people like Arnie every day and I know what it means to want to protect them. They can steal your heart..really..lol.. Anyway. i don't think Mrs. Carver killed her husband, but who knows, really, right? I do think of course what she was doing with Gilbert was wrong, but then good greif he is GORGEOUS, so i kind of can't blame her..LOL..oh and for those who want to know...the actress who plays Mrs. Carver is Mary Steenburgen..

WEGG is one of my favourite movies ;D Gilbert is a really sweet character and he cares about his family and does everything for Arnie.
I also love the relationship between him and Becky. It's really sweet and innocent

Woohoo! I'm excited... I finally bought the DVD! I haven't seen it since my Johnny-fandom began three years ago! I haven't had a chance to re-watch it yet, but I wanted to come in here to get prepped!

Next to Pirates, this movie is my all time favorite! How could you not fall in love with Gilbert and want to take care of him? This is one of Johnny's best characters. The movie is heartwarming and the cast did a great job working together.
