For everyone that had read the book...did it seem like Juliet Louis was te right one for the part of Becky? It didn't fit...I just couldn't see her doing it the way the book portrayed her...plus that's not how I pictured Becky either....

Hmm...I think the Becky charactor (hehe that's my name) should have been younger....

Juliet isn't all that pretty.... in the book she seemed drop dead gorgeous...... that kinda ruined it for me..... the book was much better in that aspect.

Well, TuR, I can't wait to hear what you think of the book! It is so much more vivid and detailed than the book. Can't you completely see Johnny as Gilbert in the book as well?!

Oh my goodness the book was AWESOME!!!
Everything Gilbert did in the book (except the little part we discussed earlier...ick) I could so see Johnny doing it in my head! It was YAY! THey did such a wonderful job casting.
I had a little problem with the casting of Becky though, because she was supposed to have long black hair...as well as only being 15...so Juliet Lewis was an interesting choice. She did well in the movie though, I liked her.
I especially liked the part where they were about to burn down his school and he goes to each of his old classrooms and leaves a message on the boards. That was very sweet and I teared up.
I definitely liked the book...and now I want to own it lol. I love Gilbert!

Yay! You liked it.... I knew you would. But yeah... that unspeakable detail we discussed.... hmm... don't know about that one As for Becky.... I didn't like her so much in the movie... she wasn't as beautiful as the book played her out to be... NOT saying Juliet isn't pretty... but I don't know.... it didn't work for me.... not as I imagined after reading the book. But she did a wonderful job of getting into character and added a lot to the film, so I won't complain TOO much

I was so terrible...I read the book during all of my classes at school so it only took me two days...=/ I know...I am a geek.
I love the way Peter Hedges writes...you can completely see things as though they are happening to you.
Everyone should read it!

LOL. TuR you are really special! Reading during your classes... ;D Makes me giggle.
And you're right.... he really captures the reader... I love how he wrote Arnie's character.

I'm not sure if I have told any of you this, but I have an uncle that is mentally retarded (the sweetest, most gentle person you will ever meet!) , and the author of this book captures their sweet innocence so well!
It brought tears to my eyes (still does!) when I read about Arnie's reactions to things and how he behaves.
