Yeah Arnie reminds me of Charlie from Flowers For Algernon..........(which by the way is a pretty good book) And Charlie had a job in a bakery for a long time so maybe that could work for Arnie.

Great connection between Charlie from Flowers For Algernon and Arnie CBR! I can definitely see a lot of parallels. And I'm sure Arnie would LOVE to have a job (like the bakery ) where he could work with people. He is such an outgoing kid. ;D

You don't see Gilbert as the type to marry? How strange... I sure do... he seems like the perfect father, and I bet he would be just grand in that role Certainly had more than his fair share of experience, which leads me to think he won't want children... But I can't see him and Becky ever leaving each other... But I definitely would think Arnie wouldn't last long for the world... throughout the film it seemed like he was getting slowly worse.... But maybe that's just how I perceived it. Me too, I totally feel the same.. I did an assignment about this, about what was going to happen in the future and it contained the same things..

I think that Arnie probably dies eventually...like around 25 maybe. Not that i would want to se that happen ..but hey thats why they give a movie an ending, You don't need to know the rest.

Oh I would think that since he made it past 18 that Arnie could do anything. Plus he's an optimistic person, and they always live longer than the vice. I'm rooting for Arnie on this one

WOOT WOOT! Someone optimistic about Arnie like me! Leave it to my awesome sidekick! How can doctors possibly predict how long someone is going to live, ya know? I think it depends on the person and how strong their will is to live...and I think Arnie is VERY strong willed. ;D

This is a very special movie and Gilbert is a very special character for me. It was Gilbert Grape that made me fall for Johnny, and so I guess I will always have a soft spot for him. As to what became of Gilbert after the movie ended, I have spent countless hours speculating on his fate, and believe it or not, sometimes I think he could have been very happy living a quiet life in Scotland with me!
Seriously though, here's my take on what happened to Gilbert. I think he and Arnie went on the road with Becky for a few years, and that Becky had a child to Gilbert although they never married. Eventually Arnie's health began to deteriorate and Gilbert decided his sick little brother needed a more stable environment and brought him back to Endora. Sadly neither Becky or their child returned with them, but Amy who was tired of living in the city agreed to come back home to help Gilbert care of Arnie.
By the time Arnie died, Gilbert had the responsibility of a mortgage and of taking over the running of Lamson's grocery after Mr Lamson retired. Once again, Gilbert was trapped in Endora, but eventually things got better for him and he found happiness again. If you want to know who, why or what caused this turnaround in Gilbert's fate, then you'll have to read my fan fic 'Gilbert's New Girl' over on the fan fic thread.
I really do love the character of Gilbert Grape, loved the movie, adore the book and still can't get over what a beautiful performance Johnny gave in this film. If you love the character and/or the movie, or you're just curious about what might have happened to Gilbert, check out my story, or better still, start writing your own. The world needs more Gilbert Grape fan fiction!

I think Gilbert, Arnie and Becky go travelling all over the place. I agree that it would be great for Arnie if he got a job. ;D I really don't want to think about Arnie dying. #no# It's just too sad. I think Amy took some cooking classes and ended up being a chef in a restaurant. I hope Ellen got over her looks and became a good person. (I read Flowers for Algernon too, it was a good story. It made me sad though at the end. )
