So what do you think happened with Becky and Gilbert? Did they stay in love and settle down somewhere? Get married? Did they continously rally in different places and move around seeing new sights? Did Arnie die?

Weird. I had been planning to make a thread called "Where Are They Now?" about the same thing... I dunno if Becky and Gilbert got married. Gilbert didn't seem the marrying type, though I bet they stayed together and traveled all over with Arnie. I bet Arnie beat the odds and continued to live to the ripe old age of 86 (I don't wanna think about him dying )

You don't see Gilbert as the type to marry? How strange... I sure do... he seems like the perfect father, and I bet he would be just grand in that role Certainly had more than his fair share of experience, which leads me to think he won't want children... But I can't see him and Becky ever leaving each other... But I definitely would think Arnie wouldn't last long for the world... throughout the film it seemed like he was getting slowly worse.... But maybe that's just how I perceived it.

Weird. I saw him as just the same throughout the whole movie. The very first scene and the very last show that he has not grown or gotten worse mentally, as his reaction to the cars is the same... But perhaps I don't see that he is getting worse because I don't want to see it. Mental retardation is a rather sore subject for my family

Yes I know what you mean.... My brother's girl friend suffers from it... I don't cope well with it... but I do a lot better than I used to. It's a very real very painful idea... I don't think anyone is.... 'untouchy' about it

True! My uncle is mentally retarded and the doctor's were always predicting how long he would live. They have stopped predicting now that he is 39 (they had been wrong sooo many times, thank goodness!) ...but its constantly there in the back of my mind...the wondering.. Anyway, sorry, back to the Grapes: What about Amy? What can you see her doing? I think she'd be a wonderful mother. But I do think that cooking is not her thing...we don't need any more burned down schools ( Roo I love that part too!)

Oh of course Amy would make a wonderful mother... She had so much patience, and many needed skills.... perhaps she only needs a couple of cookie classes to get everything under control (I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle, but it's so great when people can beat doctors predictions.... I know I'm one to them!)

Oh man that cracked me up. Whew! Speaking of cookies...my mum made a batch and they are warm from the oven. Yummmm. Sorry, back to the topic at hand... I can see Ellen going to beauty school to be a hairdresser or something of that sort. What do you think?

I don't know how successful she'd be there, she's constantly worried about herself and not caring how others look. But! With the proper amount of training, it could be a great career choice for her! ...Do you think Arnie could get a job? Perhaps he could be a greeter somewhere... he's always friendly and nice.

Awww Roo that's a wonderful thought! He would be a great hostess (host?)! If you could keep his attention on the job! They'd have to find a way to make it really interesting for him. Perhaps provide him with some grasshoppers? That part of the movie was gross.

Grasshoppers could work... but I was thinking more along the lines of a friend... or HOT DOGS!

Hahaha yes, lure him in with a lifetime supply of hotdogs. Urgh. That makes me rather sick just to think of it. OR he could be a bagging boy at Lamson's so Gilbert could watch over him. What say you to that? ;D

I can't personally see Gilbert working at a grocery store after leaving Endora...I think that he's just running as fast and as far away from his life there as he can get-yet trying to keep the familiarlity with Arnie...So perhaps he could work in a grocery store again...But how would he do this if he were to continue to travel with Becky?
