Ooh I can't wait for this one; it should be very interesting. It's a play by Stephen Jeffreys, and it's about a poet living in in France, I think around the time of Louis the Sixteenth (don't know the Roman numerals). I know that Johnny's playing the poet, and apparently he was a very erotic soul whose poems were scandalous and caused a lot of uproar. Something of that nature. I'm looking for the play in bookstores around the city; if I find it I'll let you guys know. I'm interested to see Johnny in a period film, but the part sounds like it's right up his alley. He'll be great.

Ooo, I'm interested in seeing Johnny in a period film as well......I must admit, the thought never crossed my mind before, well except for POTC that is, but now.......Johnny in breeches, yum..... ANYWAY! Looking forward to this movie, but I heard somewhere that it was having some death of don quixote style problems in getting made. I hope I'm wrong on that one!! BTW, Louis the Sixteenth is Louis XVI, X=10, V=5, and I=1. Just for your info.

Jan. 8, 2004Depp Is Libertine; Wahlberg Picks DahliaFollowing on the heels of his rakish turn as Capt. Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and preceding his role as the slightly sinister Willy Wonka in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes another fitting part for Johnny Depp: that of 17th-century womanizer John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester. According to Variety, Depp has signed on to play the title role in The Libertine, based on Stephen Jeffreys play of the same title. John Malkovich and Samantha Morton are also committed to the project. Wilmot was a man who, in Samuel Johnson's words, "lived worthless and useless and blazed out his youth and health in lavish voluptuousness." In other words, a hedonist of the first order. The earl befriended King Charles II (Malkovich) and fell in love with Elizabeth Barry (Morton), an unsuccessful actress, which led to his early death at age 33. The sexually charged period piece won't shirk from showing the earl's debauchery, and it might even receive an NC-17 rating. All of this probably pleases those Depp fans who rediscovered the sex symbol in Pirates. Filming starts Feb. 23 near London, under the direction of first-time film helmer Laurence Dunmore. • The Black Dahlia, a big-screen version of James Ellroy's novel of the same name, has nabbed additional big-name talent. Last we heard, Brian De Palma was set to direct, and Josh Harnett was in talks for a role. Now Variety reports that Hartnett is definitely on board and that Mark Wahlberg has also signed on. Both stars will have roles as former boxers who join the Los Angeles police force and partner up to investigate the 1947 torture and murder of young hopeful actress Elizabeth Short. Ellroy's book focuses on the real-life crime (which remains unsolved — the killer was never caught) and on the partners' discovery of corruption in the LAPD. David Fincher was formerly set to direct the project, the screenplay for which was written by Josh Friedman. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noooo it cant get a NC-17 rating! then i wont be able to watch it! btw this was from: movies.go.com/news/2004/1/casting010804.html

Have any of you heard anything about the rumor that the crew of the Libertine might have to pack it up and leave Britain to film somewhere else due to some kind of new law reguarding the film indstry in Britain? I heard just the faintest murmurings of this and wanted to know if anyone else had heard anything.
