My class and I were discussing the novel in Health and Wellness today. We were discussing different types of brain injuries and this book came up. Hehehe, the first thing I said out loud in class was "oh Johnny Depp is going to be in that movie", and all the women in my class turned their heads towards me and smiled with glee (I lucked out all the women in my class like him ) I'm planning on getting the book soon.
As you probably already know, this movie is based on the book written by Jean-Dominique Bauby, a former Editor of the French Elle magazine. He suffered a stroke in his brain stem that left him in what is called "locked in syndrome". Basically, he is unable to move anything in his body except his eyes.
To write this book, a woman recited the letters of the alphabet, and then he would blink for the letters he wanted. The hard thing was, he had to pretty much think up the whole story in his head, and remember it all as he was telling the woman which letters to type.
I can't wait to see this movie when it comes out, it looks like it will be a good one It will be challenging for him, but I think he can do it.

I have the DVD sitting on my kitchen table as I type. I've read the book, and even though Johnny didn't end up doing this film I'm looking forward to watching it. I just have to work up the nerve, because I know I'm going to end up sitting in a puddle of my own tears. I'll let you know what I think about it. Soon.

Actually since this ended up not being a Johnny film shouldn't someone lock this thread and post a new thread in the Screen cinema section? I don't moderate this section so I can't.
