Yeah! She was great! Although he wasn't faitful to her, she was faithful to him..
Oh, yes, the speech! Can you imagine, being really sick, covering yourself up like that and all and then to give such a powerful speech?!
How about the part where Elizabeth performs so well, after John has taught her... Look how proud/pleased he is..

Oh, I love that part when Elizabeth completely wows the crowd. And no, I'd never be able to do what he did and battle through an illness like that. Incredible. Just such a shame that he did that to himself.

Such a shame indeed... It's sad. It's not a very nice thing to watch. It proves once again that people have a big influence on their own life/health.
They've portrayed it incredible. I think the end is the most impressive part of the movie. It's hard to imagine what it would be like if it was you in his stead..

Oh, I am dying to see it again! (I won't say that in any other thread in case the E.A.R.L members beat me with sticks ). The end is just so sad....despite everything he did, I just didn't want him to die. *sighs*

I didn't want him to either! It was obvious that he would though, but that's what made his speech more powerful as he was supposed to be so weak himself.
His speech would never have been so good if he hadn't experienced the things he had been going trough..

No, it wouldn't have been. You're right there. I think he was definitely a man who needed to experience everything in life for himself.

Oh Craven! The second half of the film was very sad, I agree. I'm sure Johnny would have loved you to go and save him I'm glad you enjoyed it...well, enjoyed maybe isn't the right word if it made you so upset! I'm so happy more people are getting to see it!

Me too! I'm glad that you obviously were as impressed as Jay and myself, Craven! I found it really believeable as well. It seemed like he really was in pain.
This movie proves, once again, that Johnny is a very talented man. I admire him more than I could possibly express..

Ah, I can't belive I got to see it the first day of release here ;D It was pretty sweet because my brother just happened to want to go to the movies and thought "that new depp movie" looked alright! So he got me a ticket and we watched, and i was bedazzled, though it was a bit awkward at the points with lots of sexual stuff like the beginning scene with Johnny and his wife in the carriage, and the forest scene, and so on. But otherwise, the acting was amazing, and Johnny, poor poor Johnny, was just so devastatingly depressing to watch, I agree Craven, when he was pissing blood on his shorts, and he was in so much pain, but when his EXwife walked in, he pretended like it wasn't a big deal. The make up was amazing, and wow, that was some intense stuff. My brother didn't like it and said it was boring BUT thought that "yea, the acting was great". ;D

I'm so glad you got to see it, HF! ;D How long has it been?! Bedazzled...what a great word! That's definitely how I felt afterwards. Am I the only one who liked the carriage scene? Oh, I do hope not She was always his wife, imagine the scandal of a divorce! I doubt he would have allowed her to get a divorce, anyway....just wasn't the done thing. I believe he even wrote in his will that if she got married after his death that she would forsake the custody of their son, which I think is unnecessarily harsh. She was far too good to him.

Just saw it Friday. I kept being torn between being squicked out and wanting to hug him to death....even though he died....hm...let's rephrase that. I wanted to hug him and make him feel better, even though it really was his own fault for getting sick.
And was I the only one who really wanted to cut off the end of the kings nose? I mean it was bad makeup it made me giggle each time he came on screen.
And much love for another stirring pompous performance from Jack Davenport.
And as to the carriage seen the one in the beginning with his wife. It was deeply weird and slightly unneccesary but I couldn't stop listening to what was being said. It was nice to see that at one point he did love his wife.
And can anyone say monkey?

Yay! Someone else has seen it! Oooh, the monkey...that was really mean. Poor Lady Rochester. I'm sure he did love her, he just couldn't stay with one woman...he had to try everything. Charles I made me giggle in general, it's the effect John Malkovich has. When he was trying to seduce Elizabeth Barry I couldn't contain myself. Step aside Charlie, let Johnny show you how it's done As for Jack Davenport, I was very happy to hear him get shouted at ;D. He deserved it.

Jack Davenport rocked my socks. And poor Johnny didn't know when to keep his mouth shut. He was such a terrific smeep in that movie, but man was he great. I didn't hate him, but I sure pitied him.
Charles II made me giggle too. He was so tolerant of everything. He definitely needed a hug or an award or something, that Merry Monarch.

Charles II was only tolerant because that's what he happened to enjoy For example, he enjoyed being made to look good...you'll notice he didn't particularly enjoy the play He probably would have enjoyed a hug though ;D Ooooh, I want to see it again!
