Yes I did and yes it was a blast! I was actually surprised at how many people figured out who I was! I will definitely do that if my roommate gets her palm pilot figured out...(that's how she took the picture)

Hang in there, Gypsy! ;D
Hmmm...so what exactly was the accent Sands was using when he was talking to El Mariachi in the confessional? I think Johnny made it up. It couldn't possibly be real--it was too awful!!!

Yes, a very bad imitation! But I think that's the point. It seems to me that Sands and Sparrow have a lot in common. They both cultivate a certain image in order to kind of...throw people off-balance around them (no pun intended there). Sands has this kind of..."dumb tourist" thing going on in terms of how he dresses, and his ridiculous disguises...(cheap fake mustache anyone?) serve to kind of back up that image. It masks his intelligence, and puts people off their guard, making them underestimate him. Jack does the same thing with his "insanity" and the swagger, the drunkenness.

Excellent observation! I agree, the "dumb tourist" look is central to Sands' character, and also a character idea thought up by Johnny Depp (hooray for character analysis!). He had a friend get a lot of those cheesy t-shirts for him in Florida. Ever since Columbo, we've had brilliant characters trying to throw the others off by looking stupid. Works oh, so well. ;D

Yeah...I love character analysis... ;D And it was his sister who got all the touristy t-shirts for him I also love the little details he added to his character, like carrying around a Judy Garland biography, even though it never really made it into the movie, just the fact that he had it really says something about his dedication to creating complete characters.

Hi sorry to just jump in on your conversation like this, but I'm new and I couldn't pass up a chance to gab about how much I loved Agent Sands, or SJ, as I call him. At first I liked his character. I thought he stole the move away from all of the other actors, and was delightfully sociopathic. And the theaters I saw it also cheered to see him getting away with everything. Isn't amusing that he was supposed to be a very bad man, an awful cook killer, and yet we cheer to see him live? Anyway, at first I liked the character, then I read oh, about 30 fanfics on ff.net about him and now I absolutely love his character. He's got soo much depth that Johnny did an absolutely excellent job in expressing. Anyway, this is my long winded way of saying how much I love SJ!!!!

Merrie: Of course he stole the movie! He was amazing! Who wants to pay attention the the angsty little mariachi with noisy pants when you can swoon over the kick-ass, in your face, INSANE, loveable SJ? (I have to admit my respect for El and Antonio have grown considerably since I've seen Desperado, but that's ) Sands is everything a movie needs. He's smart as hell, gorgeous, not your usual CIA and not to mention the funniest guy of the film. Antonio's humorous facial expressions are no match for Sands and his casual cool style for everything. Even shooting the cook! He did that like he was born to do it. Like a rock star! Ack. Obsessed. -gypsy
