Has anyone noticed that the real world *not the show, I'm talking reality!* is an awful lot like how Sands wants to keep the balance? I mean, sometimes it's like we can't be over- or under-achievers without getting *literally or not* shot. Anyone agree? Or even know what I'm talking about?

I think I might... not totally sure, so feel free to clarify. If you are really terrible at something, people will ridicule you and shoot you down because you're really terrible. And if you're really awesome at something, people will privately ridicule you because they're jealous and shoot you down behind your back. Is that more or less it? I'm grasping at straws, I really have no idea.  |

 Good thread idea HF! Actually, that's pretty much what I was talking about.. it seems that society demands normalness, and won't accept underachievers, and sometimes overachievers. If you are unique or different, you're treated differently. A very big bummer Ted.

Most of that is due more or less to society's fear of differences. Society's more able to accept the under achievers (because it makes society look at itself in a better light) versus the shunning of the better people because it drags the ego down. It could go both ways though, the lesser people bring other people's opinion of society down because they judge on a generality. The way I describe it though doesn't really throw in the balancing out deal, just describing basic prejudice and things of that ilk. I think I'm missing something.

Nah, I think that there could be something there if you it on it just right. Is Sands perhaps some sort of embodiment of the evils (and positives) of the US? Because he does happen to be the only gringo in the movie (that I can remember right at this moment). As far as I know, the US is one of the biggest discriminators out there (from what I understand of the world). It could also be some sort of symbolic representation of the US being on top and needing to be so... Ooh, getting super deep and political here. I never knew I could talk like that... Oh, wait! Carp, I forgot about Billy... If I were inclined, I'd come up with some mind bending explanation about him, but it's undeniable that Sands ultimately has the bigger part of the two. Can't diss Moco the dog though.  He had one of the more creative names in the movie. |

How about in school though...They love the over achivers...And they help the under achivers....So what about the average Joe?

I think it's more or less the Average Joe that wouldn't be above or below that kind of activity. Not so much physically shooting as forming bad opinions of. There are establishments that are paid to kind of bring everybody to a general place, the under achievers to a point where they're sort of with the middle of the road bunch. The over achievers are generally encouraged to be better than everyone else, so they'd be an exception in this case, but that doesn't stop the middle of the road/under achievers from secretly disliking them. I don't really know.
