Would you have gone to the one you loved and potentially put their life in danger? Or would you have thrown the address in the fire like Abberline? It's a really tough choice, and you know, I think I would have taken the chance and run away to that cottage by the sea. Is that horrible of me?

I agree. I would have run to the cottage by the sea as well.
Because what is life without love?
I'm sure Mary would have gladly risked her life to be with Fred. I know I would have if I was in her place.
And if you don't take the chance, you will forever wonder what might have been.
Excellent thread choice Lynx! ;D

Thank you ;D I completely agree with you, a life without love is no life at all. Especially as they were so perfect for each other...*thinks back to the film* He should have gone to her I think Abberline couldn't live with the wondering...so he...well, he stopped living

(don't hurt me Lynx or TuR)
But I think I would choose not to endanger my love's life. With that being said, I would find a way around it! I'd get to 'him' somehow... work out all the bugs of the system so there'd be no danger for 'him' ((I say him because I can't put myself in Fred's place with Mary... for I am not a guy... so I'm putting myself in the situation... having me being the female pursuer))

LOL. ((Thanks TuR )) But I can also see why Abberline would kill himself... So many options!! I think he should have at least wrote to Mary ....not leave her hanging so....

I think I'd do exactly what Fred did. See, it's not just Mary he's protecting, it's Alice too. And no matter how much he wants to go to Mary, he can't risk her life... and baby Alice's. My happiness is not worth more than the life of a child. No, I would do just what Fred did. *sigh*

Hm, how selfish do I feel now? CC, I think you're right...but I don't know if I'd be strong enough. Having a child involved does change things though, doesn't it? Mary might accept the risk but Alice has no choice at all What a tough decision Oh, and Roo, I won't hurt you ;D Your way seems like the best way!

Teehee CC you make me feel evil! But...but...oh ok maybe he did do the right thing. *sigh* but how can the right way involve Aberline dying? Oh, well. Off to watch it again! TuR

Im always one to put othe rpeople ahead of myself... but this is definately the case where I would just throw the address in the fire and let it be... let things happen... As long as theyre safe... its ... well not all good.. but as long as theyre okay... thats all that matters

I think I might have done what Abberline did, but I'm not sure I would have given up hope. Abberline is such a tragic figure - and seems almost martyr-ish at the end - that he almost pisses me off by the end of the movie. I want to shake him and ask if he really thinks he's so important that people are going to be watching his every step for the rest of his life. Sooner or later their surveillance would go lax. Just because he can't go to her right now this very instant doesn't mean he can't ever. He's just way too paranoid and self-important. But I still love him.

haha Psnoo I agree with you He makes me quite angry towards the end of the movie how he jumps to conclusions and doesn't think about the alternatives But I would have done what Fred did just because of the 2 lives in danger... Hard decision

I totally agree that burning the letter was the best move. Can't leave things like that lying around. But what I don't believe is that Abberline isn't so smart and that the address wasn't so important to him that he wouldn't have remembered it for the next ten years, and that by that time it would have been safe to go to her. Of course, I also think the two of them fell in love a little too quickly and that there's too many "good-hearted prostitute" stories out there that end happily. So in the interests of variety, his death was probably best. And I love seeing Johnny die. I just think that perhaps the ending could have been written a little better.
