Lynx I am so glad you liked it! ;D Was that your first time seeing it then? I just got my copy of it in the mail a few days ago and I watched it as well..(I hadn't seen it in a few months) and I was struck again by how NORMAL this family is. They have problems, sure, but don't we all? I hate it when families are portrayed as perfect, or when the siblings all get along all the time. I can tell you right now, I don't get along with my siblings a lot of the time!

Yeah, it was my first time seeing it...I've had it for ages but my mum made me promise to watch it with her and we've only just got round to seeing it. It's been a torturous wait ;D Sometimes it's the imperfections in a family that make them special and join them together. Of course people argue, no one gets along all the time. I agree with you, TuR, it's not nice to see a film where everyone gets on all the time.

No Roo, that doesn't mean you're abnormal, that means you should be super grateful for what you have...which I already know you are ;D My family generally get along pretty well but my parents don't suit each other Bitter feuds? Been there

Yes sometimes my parents get into arguements as well... but generally it's over stupid things anyhow... They are at their best when working on farm projects around the house and the land... which we do really often.
I don't know how Gilbert coped so long with the death of his father...

You guys are so right! I related so closely to Gilbert's story-- I live with my mom and my sister and the fights can get pretty ugly. Plus, the "absent dad" theme is pretty familiar with me . I heart Gilbert!

The way Gilbert and Ellen are always so sarcastic/rude to each other in the movie makes it more real as well...they have such human reactions to the littlest provoking thing.

Yes that is a very typical brother sister relationship!! My brothers and I sometimes go at it just for the heck of it...

Ok so when I am in trouble my first reaction is to disappear into my room or run from the situation before I can get yelled at (usually its nothing as serious as slapping your brother upside the head repeatedly like Gilbert did, but there you are). But it always gets me the way Gilbert flees from the house after he does this. Its such a human reaction to run from punishment. Knowing that I probably would have run too, I always have to smile at that part. Yet another thing that makes this movie real!

As soon as I saw the title I could relate so much. Everytime I see the movie, even though there's a little bit of unreal drama/romance in there (as in just TIIIIIINY little tiny bit. LOL) the whole thing just seems like real-life. Especially Gilbert. All of the characters though... This role for Johnny is so different to the rest. It's just to subtle and quiet. Which makes it a great movie and Gilbert such a great character! ;D WEGG = LOVE
