What's Eating Gilbert Grape seems so real...it's like Gilbert, Arnie, Ellen, Amy, or Momma could be the people I move next door to when I move out to Iowa(yep, I'm gonna move out there soon!). I've loved that movie ever since I was in Pre K(although I had no clue who the hell Johnny Depp was...I liked Leo back then!), I just liked it better than all the other movies I had seen. Probably because the people in it had flaws like me. I also liked Edward Scissorhands(I was brought up on Tim Burton films!)Why do you like What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Hmm.. Well, I think it shows how hard it is to deal with people who can't accept you and your lifestyle.. like with Gilbert's mom and brother. My life is kinda like that, cause I myself am... "unique" (!) and my whole lifestyle and everyone in it is weird... but that's ok! I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

I think thats why the movie was so great, because the fact that all these characters are so real, and almost anyone could relate to at least one of the characters in the movie. Its great and I dunno, Its great!

I like it because Johnny is in it...honestly it is so depressing that I can't really like it for any other reason. I mean it is complete hell to sit through and watch that familie's misery...so the only optomistic thing you can find about it is...well...Gilbert and of course the BJ scene...that's great

Oh, this movie is great.... But why is it great? Because the acting is great.... There's problems, the Grape family isn't a rich family, Gilbert has a lot to deal with.... Yes, you could think of that as depressing... But I don't. Everybody's different, and I think the movie definitely sets a great example of how some people are left out or treated differently...

I've always loved this movie. In fact, the first memory of a Johnny movie is of this one. It's so real, and some may consider it depressing but I don't. I see it more as a story about a family that grows together. It is sad, but it's also funny, and sweet and romantic and.. so on.

Actually this is the first Johnny movie i ever saw. It is a rather funny thing really, because I rented it just because I was in love with Leonardo DiCaprio at the time (think the Titanic years) and so I borrowed it from a library.
I watched it, cried, and fell in love with Gilbert because he was just so human.
He didn't always react the way he should, he reacted how normal people do, out of anger and out of love.
It was a spectacular movie and will always be one of my favorites because it is so incredibly moving and realistic.

Yes, very realistic indeed. I could imagine this as being my next door neighbor family... or someone down the street... (well if I had neighbors....) but you know? Very believable situation... so true to heart... close to home feeling about it. I love that about Lasse's work... he makes everything so real... perhaps brutally truthful at times...

I think thats part of the reason I am in love with this movie...its not as fantastical and perfect as some films. It shows life for how it really is with all of its ups and downs. I can't stand it in movies when everything is predictable and all the characters have to worry about is if they are going to end up with a certain someone. I love it when the movie is strong enough to make you and and
