"I do not want you to like me." But did you? As he faded into darkness at the end of the film, if you were asked whether you liked him, what would you have said?

John Wilmot? Probably not.
I remember saying 'yes' in my mind, at the end, but that's probably because I kept seeing Johnny underneath him and I don't think I'll soon stop liking him, so..

I loved him. And I know I shouldn't have because he did some terrible things, and he hurt the ones who loved him most, but he was so fiercely intelligent, and had such a wonderful creative mind. I always fall for the bad ones So yeah, I liked him Thanks for your vote, PH

I always fall for the bad ones as well and I do think there definitely was something about John Wilmot that I would have liked. I just don't know really.. There are also a few things about him that I wouldn't like, so... I guess I really am undecided Good question, luv! Great thread!

You're all so lucky to have seen the film.
I wish I knew if I liked him or not! But when you haven't seen the film... LOL #rolleyes#

Oh Angevin, you'll see it one day! And you'll like him Thanks PH. Undecided is probably the more sensible option, liking a man like that is not a good idea!

Yes and No. No cause I hated how he treated the ones who loved him the most. And Yes cause I could see Johnny under it all. John Wilmot need to be slapped. But Johnny's John Wilmot I wanted to hug and make it go away. Through the whole thing all I wanted to do was tell him to stop it and just hug him and tell him let's go home now. And forget about all of it. I guess it's cause I am soft on Johnny. ;D

Oy, as evil as he was at times, I have to say yes. He had such a unique mind... at the end, when he asks "do you like me now?" it's almost as though he's pleading with you... plus, the whole monkey thing was pretty funny (even though I felt bad for the wife)

What can I say I love 'em bad (Axel I love you as you are ) but Wilmot surely would not have been the same. I do not feel he was completely bad. I feel there were moments of redemption in his soul but he was far gone in the way the world around him was and the way he wished to experience life... by the time that time itself came around he was too late. There is nothing there to hate. Maybe he does not want us to like him, but with a starting and ending so echoing each other, I cannot help but think maybe he is leading perfectly to wanting us to do just that, and like him. OK enough of my sick-ness induced philosophies You want a simple yes or no, no? Yes, I still liked him

Of course I like him...I more then like him...I adore him...
I know that he hurt many people and was a little cruel and drunk at most times....but even though he was cruel to all those people, they still adored him...like his wife..or that prostitute. So you have to be able to see past his rough shell is all...inside hes a warm fuzzy gorgeous teddy bear...in wiche I love dearly. ;D

You really didn't? That really is too bad.. I think it was brilliant, Johnny did such an outstanding job on this movie. I just totally bought it! Perhaps you can watch it another time? Sometimes I'm not really fond of a movie the first time I see it and then the second time I like it a lot better.
