Well, of course we need a film discussion...duhh.
So talk about what you liked, what you didn't... and other things of that nature.

I thought that the beginning (up until Will joins Jack on the island - and how long had they been on the island anyway?) was a bit cobbled together. I think that some of those scenes could have been fitted together a bit more smoothly. Though, hearing all the wild tales of what Jack had been up to (ghostly pirate, Singapore, etc) was great because you know that's how Jack's reputation was built.
I also didn't understand why Ragetti and Pintel were there all of a sudden. I mean, there's no real explanation for them being in a boat in the middle of the ocean along with the dog who has the keys. Hopefully there's some kind of deleted scene to explain that. Not that I don't understand an author who doesn't want to let a favorite character go...but come on. At least have it explained.
I loved the line "Why is the rum always gone...oh, that's why." I liked that Jack got his hat back before he charged the beastie - he needs it for the full Captain Jack Sparrow persona. And as far as the "Captain" title, I lime that both Will and Liz corrected Beckett on that score.
Undead monkey as payment? Inspired.
Will's line about sea turtles and Jack's rejoiner? Divine.
Davy Jones? I think Barbossa did a better job of being ominous, though Jones with his back story of a great love lost humanizes him a bit more...but maybe that's why Barbossa was so great. (Not to mention his entrance being great.)
Jack's last scene? I literally thought I was going to cry. My heart was thump-thumping right along.
Can't wait for three!!!
-EDIT-
Oh! And what about Tia Dalma? Did anyone else notice that she had a matching necklass to Davy's music box/locket? What do you think we're supposed to surmise from that?

I loved this movie! All of Jack's funny lines were great!
I hate when I see this movie has bad reviews from stupid critics who have nothing better to do than tear apart a movie. Don't listen to them.
Anyways, Jack was awesome in this movie. Johnny has great facial expressions. and OMG! that kiss! HUBA HUBA!! lol. very hot. I thought the ending was great and I dropped a tear when Jack "died".
Okay, about him dieing, I have three guesses about that:
1. Jack didnt really die. He kills the Kracken, since you saw him get his sword and charge into the mouth.
2. Jack died, but Tia Dalma and the Black Pearl crew, lead by Barbossa(VERY good suprise ending, by the way) save Jack from Davy Jones locker, which I think he might end up, if he really is dead.
3. Since Davy Jones thinks Jack has his heart, he will either save Jack from the Kraken, which I doubt, or he will make Jack part of his crew.
I know, those arent the best guesses....but I'm anticipating the third movie so much!! I CANT WAIT UNTIL POTC3!!
OH! and i found a movie poster for the third one. Not sure if it is real though. ask me if you want it. =]

This movie is extremely good...when watching it the 3rd and 2nd time i noticed a few things i missed the 1st time.
like when Jack and the crew visit Tia Dalma for the first time...when jac is snooping around and steeling things he finds Barbossas hat and examines it..and makes a starnge face. so that indiicates Barbossa being there.
also I beleive Tia Dalma is the woman that broke Davy Jone's Heart. Becuase when Jack is steeling her ring her Music locket is shown, and it is also the same music locket that Davy Jones has..and the locket is also depicted on the Dead mans chest as well. also when Tia is telling the story about the woman it sounds like shes talking about herself.
so yeh i love the movie greatly..but i despise elizabeth in this one...
I Love Davvy Jones...

Ah yes, the discussion thread ;D Cap'n Jack, can't fault him. He was great, just great ;D. I loved the way he reacted to the whole 'Davy Jones is after you' situation, a mixture of denial and desperation. I also loved the way he was prepared to exchange Will's life for his own, true ruthless pirate behaviour right there. No such thing as friend on the high seas . The bad guy! I loved Barbossa in the first movie (I almost squealed when he appeared right at the end!) but I thought Davy Jones was an amazing bad guy too, very different from Barbossa which was important, nobody would have been interested in a Barbossa clone . I thought he was a great complex guy and the whole 'die or serve with me' deal was interesting...I mean, how desperate would you have to be to accept that? And how crazy is Jack for making a deal with Davy to raise the Pearl? That man and his ship (I didn't notice the matching locket/music box, Psnoo...I'll keep an eye out for it next time!) The fight scenes were great ;D Very entertaining. One point though, how quick did Will recover from his lashing? Pretty darn quick I loved the kraken too...I'm a sucker for mythical beasts I loved the expansion of Elizabeth's character. I think her situation typifies that of so many women, what do you choose? Do you settle for safety and deal with the boredom (ie. marry Will)? Or do you go with your instinct and risk playing with fire (ie. Jack)? It was a very interesting plot development, in my opinion. I'm not a Jack/Elizabeth fan by any means but a fiesty, headstrong, intelligent woman like Elizabeth would be aware of her choices...she would know that no man could give her everything. The only part I would question was the role of Tia Dalma. Gibbs said something about Jack being desperate enough to see her and yet there never came a point that anyone was threatened when in her presence. So why was it a problem going to see her? I'm not sure what we're supposed to read into her character and her relationship with the others, perhaps it will become clear in the next movie. I agree with Psnoo about the beginning being a bit jerky in places but overall, I was completely immersed in that world and I loved every moment of it ;D **edit after reading Craven's post** Oh, I kinda hope Tia Dalma isn't the woman Davy fell in love with...although depending on how they play it in the next movie they may be able to change my mind

Oh wow, cliffhangers galore!! I loved how at the end when Barbossa appeared, there was a huge *GASP* throughout the audience. I think they left the ending a liiiiitle too open, but all in all I think they planned everything out very well. I can't wait to see how Jack survived! And like someone else said, I love how Jack didn't go without his hat. The kiss... wow. Though (obviously) not many can resist Jack, I was surprised that Elizabeth did. She and Will are (were?) so in love, and he risked everything to save her. I would be devestated if I were him. Very curious to see how this will pan out too! Hmmm, the Tia Dalma theory is interesting. I would say that their personalities didn't seem to go together well, but they also didn't interact in this movie, plus the broken heart could easily have changed Davy Jones. And Jack... wow! He was even more crazy and silly than in the first! His lines were so randomly hilarious, and his character was even more decietful. Johnny played him wonderfully!! All in all, I was blown away, and absolutely cannot wait for the third!! ;D

Okie dokies, yeah SPOILERS ABOUND HERE! Just covering my butt . Ahem. I am I the only one who wanted to give Bootstrap a big hug? He looked so lonely, and cares so deeply for Will. The lashing scene almost made me cry. Amongst all the water dripping from Bootstraps face, one lone tear rolled down his face. AWWWW. Yeah. Loved, loved, LOVED the movie. Some scenes were a little drawn out *coughcough* big fight scene *coughcough*. But over all, yeah. Loved it. And I was glad I was sitting durring "the kiss". I would have been weak in the knees otherwise. Yeah. So wishing I was Elizabeth right now, along with every other member of the female species. Ok, there's my two cents. Here endeth BM's Spoilers. ~T~

Oh yay discussion.
List of what I thought/loved
I wasnt really expecting the Cannibal Island scene to come so early in the movie.
I think that the beginning could've been a bit more exciting, although Elizabeth looked stunning just sitting there in her wedding dress in the rain.
Bowllickylicky was hilarious, it's even funnier if you know what it means.
I loved all of the rum jokes. yeah, so there better be more for number three.
The kiss was a shocker, a big big shocker..
Davey Jones, man..you gotta love him really you do. His story is so romantic and sad.
I love how Jack says drawing..it sounds more like drarring.
Barbossa .. yeah that was a shock of a lifetime. I wonder how he survived being shot in number one. My friend Amanda looked like a lost puppy when he showed up.
The big fight scene..the one with Jack, Will, and Norrington.

Bowllickylicky was hilarious, it's even funnier if you know what it means. So, fill us in. I know I'm totally clueless. Oh, and was it just me or was there a lot of Willy Wonka in Jack this time around? I swear at one point he was gonna have a flashback.

Well, first of all I really absolutely LOVED this movie. I am a bit miffed at Elizabeth, but still I loved it. The kiss... WOWSERS.. I loved the kiss..but hated the reason she did it.. it really miffed me. I tend to agree that Jack really does not die, but kills the Kracken "from the inside" with his sword, or either does die and his soul is in limbo which the crew of the Pearl, Will and Liz will have to go save him, headed up by Barbossa. About Tia Dalma...I am thinking too that she is Davy Jone's lost love.. and as gross as he looks, you kinda can't help but feel a bit sorry for him after hearing the story.and no, Tiff you werent the only one who felt sorry for Bootstrap.. Anywya, thats the deal from me.. I MUST see this again..

I definitely saw the Earl in him...next time I'll see if I can spot Wonka too. Oh, Bootstrap He needs major huggage. For an undead crewman of Davy Jones he's really very cute ;D

Yes! This time I saw it too ;D When Jack was explaining his relationship or lack of with Tia Dalma, he seriously went into Wonka mode. And the 'curiousity' speech was the Earl through and through

This thing about a woman breaking Davy Jones's heart...did Tia say that that happens to all and/or some captains? If she did, it would support my shaky theory that Jack is in love with Elizabeth (yeah, I know it's far-fetched). After all, if Jack hadn't been so distracted by Liz's kiss, then he wouldn't have had to go down with the ship. I also think he looked really sad when she first refused to "persuade" him. So what do you all think? Was he just disappointed because it had been a long time since he'd visited Giselle and Scarlet and was craving "pleasurable company?" Or did he really love her? (I hope not. They may be "peas in a pod," but I can't picture them as a couple...)
