Okay, so i have a question about that game that the Davy Jones's crew played... What was it? I didnt understand it all at... How do you play?
All I got out of it was that Will lost, but then Bootstrap lost for him but all Will wanted was to know where Davy JOnes kept the key...

Loved this movie, from Jacks entrance to Barbossas appearance on the stairs. So many good bits, I really need to write stuff down as I watch it. The Jack shishkabob thang had me rolling in the aisles and from there I just went downhill and couldn't stop laughing. Adored the 3 way fight and the whole key/water wheel thing. Such a involved story plot, too many things happening at once, a few critics (here in Aus) have bagged it for being too long, but personally I would love to have seen a few things expanded a trifle. Tia Dalma has to be Davy Jones special love, too many clues for her not to be. QuestionWhat did Jack put in his pocket while something else was going on, was it her ring or something else? Must go see it again very soon. JSG hopes this answers your question, heres my take on the game. Each person that plays makes a bet. (stakes) Each person that plays rolls 5 dice. Each person states how many dice are face up of the same numeral, if three people play up to 15 numbers can be stated. You don't have to just bet on what you have on your dice but on what you think may be in the others dice as well. Will bet an impossible number of dice so that he could lose and see where the key was kept. Bootstrap out bid Will so he wouldn't face eternity on the Dutchman. Hope that helps.

Well, please don't take this wrong, ladies, but... Ouch. Gotta say I'm a bit disappointed. I wasn't bored. It moved along. Good action, good special effects, good acting, but story? Er... I think the original POTC was so new and fresh, that it is just really difficult to follow. We didn't get anything new from Jack and nothing new from the other main characters. IMO, there was just too much angst from everyone. Where was the fun of the first film. Part of the problem may be that we are dealing with the first-half of a two-parter. I was hoping for more of a serial style group of films (like the Indiana Jones films--each one stands alone as a solid story). This one just really fell flat for me. Like we're all just biding time while they tell us the backstory for the next film. It was all angst and barely any fun. Really nothing new and fresh. And where was Jack? He just seemed like he was on autopilot for the bulk of this film. I'll be honest, I really didn't care when the Kracken chomped down on him--I already knew he'd be fine somehow. We all know there's another movie and he'd been such a jerk in this one that I just really didn't care. I hope they make him more heroic in the next film. What did I like after all that? Lots really. I thought Bootstrap was a great character, very emotionally deep and I loved how when a command went to "Turner" both Will and Bootstrap went running to fulfill it. That was a really nice choice directorially. Davy Jones was well-acted and that's impressive considering the effects on that guy's face. He really showed a lot of emotion. Loved that. I liked very much that Elizabeth got the better of Jack toward the end. He deserved it. Sorry, but he did. Although, I was pretty sure (before she chained him) that he was going to stay with the Pearl anyway (if only the director had shown us that). I loved him calling her "pirate." Did anyone else wonder if Jack was trying to lure the Kracken away from the Pearl by going into the rowboat? Again, if only the director had made that clear one way or the other. The Kracken should've followed him and left the Pearl alone--he had the black mark. I didn't like all the references to the first movie (the rum, the dog with the keys, etc). Boring. I wanted so much for this film to take us to another level, to have it's own flavor. And it just really lacked. But oh...and you all know it...how my heart LEAPT when those beautiful boots began tromping down the stairs at the end. Oh, twas my main man! ;D Barbossa's bite into that gorgeous green apple was the best part of the movie for me. In an instant, the electric charge of the first film was back. 'Course then the credits rolled. AND it isn't worth staying past the credits for the dog scene. Goodness. I hope they do a better job all together with the next one! No worries...I'll be there with my $8.50. I have great faith in the potential of the POTC mythology.

I have to say, I agree with a lot of your points, DB. I'd get into them all but it's late and I'm tired. One thing I will say though: I totally couldn't think of anyone else but you in the theatre when I saw Barbossa come down the stairs. Swear, first thought in my head was "DB's gonna love this!" That's all for now. More when I'm more awake.. -Fiend

Love it, I did, Fiend! I was clapping and went "YEAH!" when Geoffrey came on at the end. People were looking at me weird, but hey...it's my job!

Did anyone else notice that Will had taken up wearing little shiny bits of this and that around his neck? That guy is more of a pirate that he wants to admit.

I completely agree. I went in expecting this to be a stand-alone. I wanted it to be wrapped up with a nice happy ending. It's possible to do that and still leave a few things hanging for the next movie. Look at OUaTiM. All the good guys (and the bad guy we like #sands# ) are still alive at the end. But we don't quite know what might happen to Sands. Which is why there should be a sequel. But that's a whole different topic (and forum). I hope they make him more heroic in the next film. Yeah, really. He made me laugh, but I definitely didn't like him as much in DMC. They kind of took away his status as an interesting, iconic character with a mysterious past and turned him into a buffoon. Did anyone else wonder if Jack was trying to lure the Kracken away from the Pearl by going into the rowboat? Again, if only the director had made that clear one way or the other. The Kracken should've followed him and left the Pearl alone--he had the black mark. Good point. I did not think of that at the time. Like I said before, by that point in the movie he was acting like such a fool that I just assumed he was running away.

Ooh, ouch, some definite harshness in here. Well, I won't echo a bit of it. I've said this time and again, but I love movies, all movies... I can get way into movies that everyone else says are awful. But I get so sucked into a story, and my imagination is easily prodded into jumping on board to just about anything. That being said, I still thought this movie was great. I do see it as the first part of a 2-parter, like you all said. And I see CotBP as sort of setting up the world and characters that this 2 part story will occur in. This film was darker, danker, and we certainly saw the ugly side of our favorite characters. Don't rag on Jack because he acted selfishly... cause Will and Elizabeth both had their share of underhanded trickery to get what they wanted. Norrington, included. Everyone acted out of character, and all had their motivations. I'm most interested to see how the Jack and Elizabeth situation plays out. That and the Tia Dalma story... there's something still to do with her. Well, that and the Norrington/Beckett story... and... Barbossa!! Ok, so I can't wait to see everything! I'm going to see it again on Saturday, and maybe I'll have something a little less squee-ish to contribute.

No, no, CC! Be as squeeish as you like! ;D I wouldn't expect less, m'dear! Let me reiterate that I certainly wasn't bored or anything. My expectations weren't met, that's all. I have a feeling when I go to see it again, I'll like it better because my expetations will be in a different place. CC

Goodness I just realized I haven't posted in here yet... I read the posts everyday and just figured I already had... oopsie I'm totally with you CC. I try not to go into movies with expectations, even if it is one of Johnny's films, I just don't want to be dissapointed in the end if it's not exactly how I pictured it. So I walked into the midnight showing with no expectations except to see good ole Jack again. So the movie blew me out of the water. ( ) I loved how this film was just one surprise after another. I mean the first scene is Jack and Liz being arrested!? And then suddenly will's father shows up... Jack owes his soul to Davy Jones.... Norrington joins a pirate crew... Jack tries to 'be a good man' (failing terribly I must add)...Liz falls for Jack... Liz BETRAYS Jack and gets him eatin by a kraken... and to top it all off they need the help of Barbossa to get him back. It just kept me on my toes the whole time that I didn't even have time to think about what could be better. I do see how the beginning is a bit choppy though. It seems like they had a 3 or 4 hour movie planned out... but could only take up 2 1/2. But hey i'm not a movie critic... I could have setteled just seeing Jack sleep for 2 1/2 hours I have SOO many things I liked about this movie but I think this is a long enough post for now

I did the same thing, Cappy... I avioided spoilers at ALL costs and went in the movie just happy to be seeing Johnny as Capt'n Jack on the big screen again.... and I completley LOVED the movie. I wound up hating Liz by time it was over, but I loved it...

Jack and Elizabeth.....wow. I literally gasped out loud in the theater when they kissed. I just couldn't believe it. Do I think they have a "thing"? (Sigh) Yes and no. I think the compass jsut messed with their minds. It kept pointing at them and the compass wiull always point to what you want most in the world. I think they both were like "Whoa-that's a suprise, but hey, he's a good man/she's a good pirate-my exact opposite and I'm curious what it would be like to sample that, if the compass fits..." And whoever noted the leg grabbing gesture, you're not alone, there was indeed something very intimate about it.

Leg grabbing? I missed that, I did... hmmmm..I gotta go see it again..I missed a lot of "little" things. I guess it comes from being too excited and just taking it all in too quickly!

You know what I think? I think that since the Flying Dutchman needs "a living heart" that either Jack or Barbossa becomes the captain of the Flying Dutchmen (because we all know that Will is going to put a dagger through Davy's heart), and that the other one gets the Black Pearl. That's what I think.
